Default Dedicated .22 Upper Issue with Magazines

I got a dedicated upper. Tactical Solutions LT M4 Kit. It comes with a magazine for the upper. The issue I have is that the lower that I currently use holds Pmags for my AR-15 but it doesn't hold my ar-22 magazines. It goes in and fits good but doesn't lock down and just slides out with a little force.

Can anyone give me some options or solutions?

Does the 22 mag stay in without the upper installed?

I run a TacSol upper, and use ONLY Black Dog Machine mags with mine - it's worked flawlessly through 2k round so far. What mags are you using, and do they have those stupid mandated CA blocks in them?

I realize you might HAVE to use them, but the dedicated .22 AR and dedicated .22AR mags are finicky to start with, BEFORE adding the appropriate Moonbeam, Schnauzer, & Whinestein-approved screw-up parts. I'd look at that as the possible cause of your problems as well.

No. The mag will not stay in even without the upper.

These are blackdog magazines. I have four of them and they all don't stay in. I'm thinking it's something wrong with the mag catch or the mag well machining is off.

Apparent mag catch issue. Change it and see how it works then.

Who made the lower? Was it an 80% build? Are you using 10 round Black Dog Mags or 10/30 Black Dog mags? Do you have a buddy who has another lower you can borrow? That might help you determine if your lower is the issue. If it malfunctions with another lower then send it back to Tac Sol. Good luck.

it's an 80% build made billet. i'm using both, a few 10's and a 30.

It is interfering with your Mag-Lock! try using a regular mag release when using your lower with the .22LR

Either get a Raddlock, or try the CMMG mags.

****ing ****. sure enough, it works with my stag arms lower...

i think its got something to do with the mag well not being machined properly.

you guys decide how the machining looks and the mag catch.

the thicker one is the 80 percent (im having issues with)

80 percent

I was going to say Rohg Arms 80%...I see that it is another billet 80%.

Looks like the mag catch slot is not deep enough. The mag catch should protrude deep into the magwell like the forged lower shown.

Might be the extended release lever hindering/not allowing the catch to travel far enough to get deep enough into the well also. Pop that off and give it a try!

I use BDM mags and they are GTG. 10 round, even 15 & 26 (?) with blockers.

I've seen this issue with some inferior 80% lowers which seem to be flooding the market. In the future I would recommend going with a forged lower or one from a really reputable company.

Anyway, Your going to want to get a very nice square file, some paint or something (to figure out where the high spots are), and set aside a nice block of time. Remove as little material as possible, go slow, constantly check for fit.

When your done you may consider getting it blasted and refinished.

Looks like your mag catch pocket may not be deep enough for use with the Black Dog mags. Check the link for a similar issue and possible solution. Good luck.

Make sure the mag will drop free WITHOUT a mag catch installed first... Otherwise your destroying a good mag catch.
