A couple good budget kayaks that can be found under $1000:

Fast and skinny (what I would recommend):
Ocean Kayak Trident (pick your length)
Ocean Kayak Ultra
Wilderness Systems Tarpon (pick your length, 120/150/160)
Viking Kayak Profish Reload (if you can find one, I hear these are rare on the west coast).
Jackson Kayak Kraken (this one is marketed as being fast, but I had one and got rid of it because it was slow and heavy. All the other kayaks above paddle better and are faster.

Wider and slower, better to stand on;
Wilderness Systems Ride 135 or 115
Jackson Kayak Cuda 12 or 14
Ocean Kayak Big Game

Give a look at Bigwatersedge.com...see what the big boys are using...they have a classified section as well.

Close to pulling the trigger on a clearance 2018 Vibe Seaghost 130 for under $800 which is equipped with rudder and comes with a factory paddle which I know probably isn't worth keeping.

Got to get mine down. Mexico coming up. I go out to kelp with power boat and go in with kayak to fish holes. I am a lazy paddler. Or use jet ski to tow kayak then fish kelp.

Great job Bulls eye! I’ve got my eye on a new 2018 Vibe Sea Ghost 130 and will hopefully be in my possession before Fathers Day!

My wife and I got away for a couple of days to Clear Lake (the biggest misnomer of all time!) last week. Did some kayak fishing and got a few bass. Fun times.
