Default Anyone seen the latest bout of retardation coming out of Oakland?

You can make this **** up

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bfhk_ZHAIMU/?

Cut and pasted text below for posterity in case they change their minds about their new found infamy

Quote:
hastamuertecoffeeLast Friday February 16th a police (OPD) entered our shop and was told by one of our worker-owners that “we have a policy of asking police to leave for the physical and emotional safety of our customers and ourselves.” Since then, cop supporters are trying to publicly shame us online with low reviews because this particular police visitor was Latino. He broadcasted to his network that he was “refused service” at a local business and now the rumblings are spreading.
We know in our experience working on campaigns against police brutality that we are not alone saying that police presence compromises our feeling of physical & emotional safety. There are those that do not share that sentiment - be it because they have a friend or relative who is a police, because they are white or have adopted the privileges whiteness affords, because they are home- or business- owning, or whatever the particular case may be. If they want to make claims about police being part of the community, or claims that race trumps the badge & gun when it comes to police, they must accept that the burden of proof for such a claim is on them. OPDs recent attempts to enlist officers of color and its short term touting of fewer officer involved shootings does not reverse or mend its history of corruption, mismanagement, and scandal, nor a legacy of blatant repression.

The facts are that poc, women, and queer police are complicit in upholding the same law and order that routinely criminalizes and terrorizes black and brown and poor folks, especially youth, trans, and houseless folks.

For these reasons and so many more, we need the support of the actual community to keep this place safe, not police. Especially in an area faced by drug sales and abuse, homelessness, and toxic masculinity as we see here on this block. We want to put this out to our communities now, in case we end up facing backlash because as we know OPD, unlike the community, has tons of resources, many of which are poured into maintaining smooth public relations to uphold power. It will be no surprise if some of those resources are steered toward discrediting us for not inviting them in as part of the community.

So they don’t “invite” the police to be a part of the community and complain that they aren’t a part of the community...

It says Hasta Muerte Coffee so I'm guessing that's the business.

I love this whole idea and notion of privilege. It's amazing. Why is it also selective to black and brown people? What about asians/yellow? What are houseless folks? People that don't have houses? What about people living in apartments, condos, flats, studios, etc.?

How discriminatory!

I am 100% for the police, BUT we do have a two tiered system where only police can freely buy or carry guns in CA. In AZ with everyone able to carry a gun the Police are very polite. An armed society can be a very polite society. Freedom to serve who you want is still FREEDOM. So let's exercise our freedom and never go there.

It's a nowhere and nobody coffee shop, that is failing as a business. I bet someone complained about the dealing and officers just went to make introductions.

Officers in the area are go to Starbucks as far as I can tell.
So again it's a attempt to get their 15 min.

Preaching to the choir, sir.

I agree with your statement about freedom and believe you're referring to the "We refuse the right" of private businesses. I believe that as well. For the company to take a, in my humble opinion, racist, discriminatory, and prejudicial stance is another story.

Gah its so frustrating. The coffee shop is participating in the same general act of discrimination that they accuse the police of. Its laughable.

The KTVU (local news channel) report is pretty funny, too. They interview all the locals who have clearly been residents of Oakland for a long time and all of them voice opposition to the coffee shop's stance. So you have people (who are the same demographic as those who are 'oppressed') telling the news camera that the coffee shop is wrong.

The one person they interview that agrees with the shop is some white, hairy-armpit vegan hipster chick...who probably has only lived in Oakland for a year and grew up in a upper middle class white neighborhood.

Its ludicrous because Oakland PD has to be the most tolerant and demographically diverse PD I know.

Well with a name like Hasta Muerte "Until Death" and in the location there
in, it's only a matter of time before they get robber or someone is shot.
I googled up the location and the business it looks like a 3rd world sewer.

I used to work for an old WW2 USMC sergeant major who was a self made millionaire. When I asked him what any new business owner should do he said "join the local PD softball team booster org, donate to the local PD charity, and give all PD 10-20% discount."

I guess times have changed.

So if there's a 211 or 187 in progress, are we not supposed to enter the facility due to the posted policy of management?

Now that some Oakland churches are supposedly refusing to call the police for anything I wonder how some of their members will fulfill their role as mandated reporters...

On HM's FB page, they put up pics of 999 ODA setting up shop across the street from them. 999 ODA was giving out free coffee to LEOs, as well as promotional items.

You can blame the liberals and the politicians that feed from that public trough.
The politicians will do everything they can to keep the trough open and filled.

They will create laws that make the citizens disarmed and criminals armed. They know they will lose that critical vote without the law enforcement support so they put the exemptions in to placate the LE.

Remember they don't care about the citizens only illegals who will vote for them and all it costs is using the public funds to give welfare.

Blame the politicians cause they are making you into the ***** with the deep pockets. LE gets the bone because without them the criminals and crazy citizens will go after the politicians.

want to see some serious angry left wing fireworks. Just cut off the taxes and revoke all new taxes or tax increases since 2000 and watch the sh-- ht the fan and then some. Watch the left threaten to send the goon squads out and ramp up the gun grabbing. Now is the time to seriously poke the Brown bear before elections and make them lose control and their temper. Nothing funnier than watching Pelosi strain her reconstructive surgery when she get livid.

What a bunch of bull..

The Police are "polite" everywhere.

As for the police being the only people who can "freely" buy guns...

Yes, Ca. has a dumb roster... But that's the only limit to purchasing.

LEO's still must wait the same as everyone else...

No personal "assault" weapons.

Because they are "peace Officers" they are allowed to carry concealed. Just like those other CA residents who have a CCW permit...

Don't blame the cops for the stupid CA laws.
