I voted for the M9. I have both and besides the sites can't tell any difference. The reason I like the M9 the best is because it says M9 on the side of the gun just like the one I had in the Marines. The whole gun is more nostalgia to me than anything else.

I picked the M9 because that was military issue. I had a 92FS because that is what Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson carried as cops.

I didn't realize this until you pointed it out. Knowing the M9 doesn't have it almost makes me want to buy one!

I actually look for guns that don't have the warning and generally steer away from guns that have it.

Good info!!

Yeah, I bought an M9 because it didnt have the stupid warning language and I like the straight frame dust cover.

I bought my first 92FS in 1994 before the Clinton Crime Bill, and been shooting the heck out of it ever since. Also have a Special Edition M9 and Inox model, all shoot excellent. Older Berettas have all steel parts, but newer ones have a mix of plastic parts: Guide Rods, Decocking Levers, Trigger and Mag Release..... that you may want to replace with steel parts, costs about $40 or less for metal parts. There is a company that just introduced an AR 9mm magazine adapter for Beretta magazines.

The 92 FS, and M9A1 have slight ergonomic improvements to the frame, so they are my preference.

No matter which Beretta M9 or 92 you buy, it is a great value and a very flat recoiling and soft shooting pistol. So long as you are not trying to carry it concealed, a great choice.

Of the 7 Berettas I own, 5 are FS, 2 are M9. So I guess I voted FS with my wallet lol.

I voted M9 because I carried one back in the day. But If I found a great deal on a 92fs I wouldn't shy away either. I just perfer the straight dust cover and lack of warning labels, etc.

That is common if you release the slide with the safety/decocker engaged.

That is one reason why I like the G models better.

Agree, not a fan of the gun for shooting. But it has a lot of sentimental value, my plan is to have a shadow/display box with a M1911A1, a M9 and a M17 in it. I’ll never shoot them(I got Glocks and other 1911s for that)I’ll remove they’re firing pins and put it on the wall with my other display boxes.

M9A3...but that’s only a wet dream for civilians in CA unless you find one for ppt. So, M9 or M9A1.

That broken hammer release lever is not plastic. It's metal. I guess. its just very weak metal. Thanks Carcassonne for the advice. I won't be releasing the slide with the safety on on my Berettas. I hardly ever do it but I've must have done it a few times before.

I love my M9 Put about 300 rounds with it down range after picking it up. No malfunctions and off to clean it for its first time now.

Super fun and sweet shooter. I’ve been working that double action trigger to get it just as accurate as the SA shots. No regrets!

The 92 FS is the version that I grew up with in my formative years as a young gunowner. It is the one that takes me back to the 90's when I first started to learn to shoot and become a responsible gun owner. Every time I hold it in my hands it brings back memories.

New shooter here. Anyone have recs on choosing the M9A1 over 92FS? Waiting for stock and money aren’t an issue.

I don’t believe there are that many differences between the M9 and M9a1 so you can refer to the replies above if you’re deciding between the 92FS and M9 series.

The only differences I know of is that the M9a1 has 3 dot sights compared to M9. The M9a1 also has a picatinny rail and flared magwells. The markings are also different on the guns themselves of course.

I prefer the 3 dot sights, other than that, the differences are minimal. My Inox has 3 Dot night sights on it. My original county issue 92F had 2 dot sights. It has over 35K rounds thru it without a single malfunction. My Inox 92FS has about 15K without a malfunction. I shot over 1,000 rounds thru it in one day without cleaning or lubing it during the session. My thumb had a blister on it from loading magazines. (Before the days of magloaders)

Great firearms. I will never get rid of them. Carried both on duty from 1988-2011.

I just realized you asked about the M9A1 vs 92FS, disregard unless you want more choices.

My 92fs Inox seems to have a metal decocker.

I handled a M9A1 at the shop yesterday and it felt "plasticky".

Can someone confirm this?
