Default reloads into ammo cans or 50-100 round boxes?

Do you guys put your reloads into bulk military style ammo boxes or do you neatly places them into 50-100 round boxes? Please list what you do and why. Primarily talking about pistol ammo.

Up to now, i've been recycling the factory plastic/cardboard ammo boxes and even picking some out of the garbage at the range to re-use but since i've been loading more and more lately am thinking loosely contained might not be a bad idea either.

i load pistol and rifle ammunition in 5 gallon buckets..... they fit in quite well and you can count em later. then i just put them into ammo cans... this is for me.

customers get plastic 4mil sealed bags of either 100 or 50rds with all the info on it.

I put them loose in quart sized zip top bags with a piece of paper documenting all the relative information. Stick the bags in ammo cans, boxes, or empty plastic cat litter containers, whatever I have on hand.

I put 50 to 200 .45 ACP reloads into quart ziplock bags with the recipe and date written on them, and then I put the bags in .50 cal cans. The cans hold 400-600 rounds, which is about as much as you can carry.

Thumbs up Ammo cans

What I have done is line the ammo cans with card board, then put the rounds in there. Keeps some of the moisture off them

Zombie ammo goes into the nice MTM plastic boxes or stays in the factory box so I always know how much I have.
Target and practice ammo goes in the ammo cans, Cabelas boxes, or the 3lb plastic Folgers coffee "cans". I track what I use by loading what I'm going to shoot into some spare MTM boxes or count what I load in the mags.

Cardboard in the cans is a nice, low tech way to keep moisture away.

Zip lock bags are to fragile for me.

Food Saver bags with descant packs for long term storage is great for the home user.

Beta C mags are the best way to store ammo long term ready to use.

When you first start reloading, you put the rounds in those nice plastic boxes.
Eventually, the novelty wear off and you realize how much more practical ammo cans are and you just pour the ammo into the can.

Ok, who else uses MS Excel to track their ammo inventory? A bit anal? Or ??? Not trying to jack this thread, just thought it was relevant to ammo storage and identification.

Lots of good information guys, thanks! Looks like i'm off to the surplus store to pickup a few more 30 cal cans.

I still like to sort by headstamp so that my accuracy and COAL are all uniform. But I somehow think as I graduate from loading a few hundred at a time to a thousand at a time, sorting headstamp brass will become a thing of the past. We'll see. I can manually sort about a thousand pcs. in an hr.

You just don't have the right sized cans.

I do, but just for my "permanent" inventory; i.e. OEM ammo and "high quality" reloads.

My range reloads are counted by seeing how full the "shootin' ammo" box is. If it looks low and I have brass, or even if it does not look low and I have brass, I'll reload until have "enough". If I run out of brass before I have enough, then I'll get more. Actually if I want to reload and I am out of brass I'll just get more no matter how much range ammo I have.

I use the little plastic ammo boxes from Midway, Grafs, Berrys - I really don't care what type, I'm more interested in what color.

You see my pistol ammo is:

.380 acp
9mm Lugar
38 special
.357
.40 acp
.44 special
.44 mag
.45 acp

I keep at least 500 rds of each at any one time except the 38 and 45 acp which are more like 1500 rds.

I have an aversion to banging pistol ammo around in ammo cans.

Besides my ammo cans are full of sized, trimmed, champhered, primered rifle brass. The sized, belled and primered pistol brass are in those little pencil boxes the kids use in school.I cam into a couple of dozen used boxes

my cute little blue boxes keep up just fine with my single stage press, once i move up to a progressive i fear i may lose sight of the pretty blue boxes.

Pistol and blasting ammo is counted by the gallon and stored in .50cal ammo cans or 5gal buckets. Precision rifle ammo is the only thing that gets the individual treatment.

i use to use a camdex but i am in the process of selling it....i ran that machine for a week and i still have ammo left... i now just use two automated dillion 1050's per caliber...but i am ramping up to more of them or maybe real big machines!

i also run pre processed brass so i dont have to polish them to shoot them. just throw them in the cement mixer for 20min and they are GOOD TO GO!

for personal stuff/ match i have the nice plastic MTM boxes with all the info....

i also tried the boxes from midway for resale, but it added an extra 1.20 a box to the cost and most people (now they do) still dont keep the box or the brass!

but i have gone to labels with some of the cartridge info on the bag.

50-rnd boxes for match rifle reloads. 100-rnd boxes for pistol reloads. My OCD will not allow me to simply toss these lovingly-prepared loose rounds into an ammo can, because then you can't easily tell how many rounds you have. I gots to know the count.

I do use 50 cal cans to store my boxed, store-bought ammo though -- 20-round boxes of 7.62x39, 100 round boxes of 45ACP, 20-rnd boxes of .223, etc.

But my reloads, they must go into the pretty plastic boxes. Anything less does not give them the honor, dignity, and respect they deserve.

100 per Zip-lock bag in Ammo cans. I can fit 1000 rounds of 9mm in a 30cal can.
