The surplus powder is a great cost saver.

WC844 use H335 load data and WC846 use BLC2 load data. Always start out at minimum charge and work up. There can be quite a bit of variation from lot to lot, but once you find a load for the lot 8lbs goes a long way.

I would stay away from the 50 cal surplus powders. They can be used in large magnum calibers but its more hassle than its worth. Leave it for the guys with the big guns.

sorry for the delayed responce.

I would be most 185 gr. I would be wanting about 1k 9nn and 45acp depending on the price, possibly more.

Another complete noobie here. I live in Ontario and work in O.C. I’m looking to get my reloading equipment in the next few weeks. I would definitely be interested in some cheap supplies. I would only be reloading 9mm to start with and not really sure how much powder I would need to reload 1000-2000 rounds.

1K-2K 9mm 115gr RN (plated)
1K-2K small pistol primers, don't care what brand
W231 Powder (not sure how much I would need)
Thanks

You should get an average of about 1500 to 1700 rounds of 9mm with a pound of W231..I think.

7000 grains in a pound, do the math to make sure.

When I first started loading, I spilled more powder trying to get my Lee 1000 working than I put into cases...

You should have seen me trying to salvage about a thousand grains from my table the other day! Learned the hard way the cap on the Lee powder dispenser is more for looks, came right off and spilled everywhere! Ughhh

So, I feel your pain on that one

Got a chance to jump online and updated the spreadsheet. Hayaku, we're probably going to order projectiles from Xtreme. Would you be ok with Xtreme projectiles or do they have to be Hornady?

No, not yet. As I said, I won't have time to do any work beyond basic organization until after this week. I will let everyone know as soon as I do.

Too lazy to post the prices but they are included as attachements at the bottom of the first post. These were the prices we got with a 5% off sale xtreme was running at the time. It worked so that the discount completely paid for shipping.

Needless to say the distributor prices are excellent.

Heres a small comparison of group buy rate vs regular rate, keep in mind we will all likely save money on shipping too.

9mm: $54/1000 vs $81/1000
40: $76/1000 vs $103/1000
45: $88/1000 vs $116/1000

Well there's no issue with demand. Looks to me like two orders:

1 - Xtreme for bullets
2 - Powder Valley for primers and powder

Bigmak, let's not try to solve world hunger. Keep it simple and organize the group buys around two vendors - most people are covered and any outlyers will have to arrange separate purchases. I think Powder Valley will be simply placing an order and having it delivered to a central location for distribution. Xtreme will require more lead time and coordination due to the logistics of building up the order by Xtreme and then arranging the shipping from NV to here.

When you're ready we can discuss and I'll try to provide some guidance. Mark did the Xtreme purchase a few months ago for us and was stellar at making it appear seamless for everyone else. You may try to convince Mark for some guidance as well depending on his bandwidth.

The big issue you'll need to resolve is money coordination. I'm sure you have some good ideas already and I'm happy to discuss.

Lwlaml yes that's what it's looking like. Like I updated in post 1 I had an unexpected family event come up so I am out of town until next week so I will get everything moving at that time and will set up an "order cutoff" time too.

Thanks all!

I'm in the Pass area (Banning/Beaumont) and I'm reloading .45ACP, .40 S&W, and .41 Remingtom Magnum.

This sounds like an awsome idea! I'm in for:

From Xtreme:
1k - 40- 155 RNFP Plated
500 - 41- 210 FP Plated
500 - 45- 185 FP Plated

From Powder Valley:
1k - Winchester SMALL PISTOL PRIMERS
1k - Winchester LARGE PISTOL PRIMERS

I'm new to the whole idea so if you can keep me in the loop on what's going on, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Whenever bigmak is ready to roll i think we all are as well, ill be happy to help with anything i can. Last time there was alot of help from everyone involved and thats really what made everything happen. Lester handled all the payments, SVRider made the spreadsheet, and 4 or 5 people showed up at the terminal with pickup trucks to get everything to my house.

These buys can get outta hand pretty fast and take alot of energy. We started out going for 25k rounds to qualify for distributor pricing, and by the time we made the order it was about 230k rounds.

When i placed the order with Xtreme, i did it under the company name "Southern California Reloaders Guild" if we keep placing huge orders every few months under the same company, we may start to generate some pull with Xtreme, possibly getting further discounts or other benefits.

The Lady at extreme was pretty taken aback by the size of our order and it took them longer than usual to fill it, i wouldnt be surprised if we become a fairly valuable account to them.

Update

Looks like I will be home on Sunday but I just found out my aunt's house burned down so I will be stopping by there to see if she needs help.

Mark and Les, since it sounds like you guys are pretty experienced, maybe we can set up a conference call or email coffee when I get back and hammer out details?

Thanks all for your patience... We will get this rolling asap!

Sorry guys... my oversight. Markdoddridge just PMmed me to remind me that I haven't posted any prices yet. I assume prices will be the same/similar to what he'd outlined but I will call Xtreme and Powder Valley now (if they are open) and post prices ASAP. If not, I will try tomorrow, and if not, I will for sure have prices by Wednesday as my work hours M and Tu will not allow me to do anything toward this.

Mmkay. So if it's the same prices as Mark's past Xtreme group buy I will for sure go with: 1,000 rounds of hard cast "38 -125gr. RNFP Cowboy, .358 diameter". I believe I'm supposed to go with the .358 diameter lead bullet out of my .38 spl revolver, if I'm not mistaken. I hope I can get the plated 124 gr. 9mm 1,000 count if I have the money by the deadline. I'm a dummy when it comes to saving money.

Confirming I am in but my list will be a little bigger. There is a town 4th parade I am leaving for so I will have time to update my list later this weekend. I will post new list and update my first post the same.

Thanks BigMak911 and the guys that are helping him!

Also, I live in the sticks east of Temecula and I am about 1 hr 20 min from Corona and can not come over right after work to pick up or to help with getting things from the loading dock. I have no problem paying quickly when you get the order figured out but I would have to pick up on a weekend after you get them schedules permitting.
