Razor 80% 10/22 build

Decided to try building one of these even though I had no access to a mill. I do have a drill press, so I figured what the heck. No DROS, no ten day wait, or any other California legal crap to contend with. To tell the truth, everything went fairly well, but the barrel hole definitely introduced a major pucker factor. I checked and double checked and when finally confident all was aligned properly, I step drilled the barrel hole. I started with a 1/4", then 3/8", then 1/2", then 9/16", 5/8" and did the final drilling with a 21/32" drill. I then used a 11/16" hand reamer for the finished hole. All in all, quite satisfied with the build. Test fired it at the Reed's indoor range. Not quite a good benchrest available there, but standing with the bipod on the bench I did get off some decent grouping.

Nice, I was curious about these....what was your cost without the optic? I like the integrated rail on the razors.

Thanks guys. I probably have a little under $500 invested in this not including some of the tools I had to buy such as drill bits and drilling jig and reamer.

I dunno, I hardly ever even shoot my 22 anymore. But I think this sounds ALOT easier than an AR 80%?

have you milled an AR receiver?
You could call that "just drilling holes" too.

Its the same process, you can "mill out" an AR receiver with just a drill press too. My buddy did just that not too long ago. PITA though.

Looks good. I started to finish mine today. Was your lower really rough? I ask because mine looked like it was deburred by an amateur.

I need to look in to this, I have been wanting a charger but finding an out of state FFL that will install a fixed single shot sled for less then $75 bucks is teeing me off. I could legally build up a charger like pistol with a fixed mag for less then the cost of a charger much less the added cost of the transfer and fixing single shot mag.

I haven't added any finish to the receiver. It looked good the way it came, and I didn't add any scratches to the receiver during the build. If at a later time the finish starts to deteriorate, I'll re polish it and maybe put on some clear coat of some type.

No, actually the finish was very good on mine. Did you get your receiver from Select Fire?

I had ordered a Revolution Tundra stock for the Razor 1022 when I was building it two and a half months ago. Well, it arrived a couple of days ago so I went ahead and swapped stocks.

Yeah, I got it from select fire. There were many surfaces on mine where the machining didn't blend surfaces the way I liked so I spent a good amount of time filing. Overall I am very happy with it but the bad blends and large burrs were a bit frustrating.

Mine too. It was bad enough that I contacted the company and they basically told me to eff off

It is all hole drilling operations unlike an AR lower. I would say that everything is doable with a drill press and a jig except for the barrel hole. You really need a the rigidity of a mill and something to cut the hole accurately. How many people have a boring head or a .6875" reamer laying around?
