Default my un-referb 1950 Tula SKS...

Just wanted to share with you guys my recent aquisition. This is my 1950 Tula arsenal SKS, un-refurbished/as-issued (I'm 99% certain). All parts and stock are matching number as well. I assume this is an early import rifle as there is no electro penciling marks to be found on the receiver. The import marking is cleanly stamped "Century Arms, St. Albans, VT" on the underside of the barrel (I had to remove the cleaning rod to see it clearly). I am by no means an SKS expert, any feedback or comments are always welcomed! Thanks...

Here is a profile...

Diamond cartouches around the crossbolt on the stock...

Tula Star with the date and full serial number on the left buttstock, and no other numbers or XXX's...

Circular inspector marking/cartouche on the right buttstock...

Bayonet with original stake marks in the left side retaining screw threads...

No marks on the receiver cover top, except the arsenal stamp and date...

And no square with a line corner to corner on the stock, correct?

Sharp stock cartouches that aren't shellacked over and no bbq finish are good signs of a non-refurb. 1950 is a an early year too. I haven't seen too many Century marked Russians. Interesting and great rifle!

It belonged to a neighbor of my folks. They're in a nice Golf Course retirement community...

AFAIK...
The "r" marking next to the date stamp is an indicator that it was refurbished.

I believe that is incorrect. The "r" from all my research on Russian SKS's is the Russian abbreviation for "Year". However, the mistake could in fact be mine, but I'm almost certain thats what it actually means...

You are correct, the r is the abbreviation for year. Here is a long read on this topic, early SKS's.

This one isn't quite as nice as yours, but pretty close...I believe this to be a 1955-56 Tula Refurb.

I really like the red stock with the dark swirls in it. The pictures don't capture it at all really.

I think I see the rectangle arsenal mark on the bolt, and the stock has the XXXX on the numbers and is then renumbered to match...

Bobby Ricigliano told me the horizontal numbers on the handguard and stock are East German markings. Very cool!
