Default Utah going "Constitutional"

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=757&sid=23828129

Utah is looking to follow suit of Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, Alaska and of course Vermont. This just passed the standing committee yesterday and moves to the house. They only had 2 objections to it! I love Utah!!

In other news...

Three days ago, Nevada state senators introduced SB137, which is Nevada's "constitutional carry" bill.

I could only find SB137 talking about recycling. Do you have a link to the written bill?

Good for Utah!!! And make sure to hit the poll in the article......

However Utah needs to enact a solid "Constitutional Carry" statute that treats CC the same as permit carry like they do in Alaska.

For example, in Montana you need a permit in towns, in Wyoming you need a permit if you are not a WY resident, in Arizona you need a permit to carry in bars and restaurants that serve alcohol. So hopefully Utah can do better than this!

They are going to stick to the true constitutional ruling based off of Vermont but you'd need a CC to carry on school grounds.

This is a bit of a thread jack, however this is great news, Quiet should probably start a new thread on Nevada attempting to go CC. But here is the link for SB137.

This is totally awesome dude! (in my best Jeff Spicoli voice )

And the school grounds is a given since that is the Federal GFSZ Act.

LOL not in Utah. Some rights are more equal than others in Utah. It's not the land of milk AND honey, it's one or the other but not both yet. It's a mirror of California, the same but opposite.

Glad to hear they'll keep issuing permits, MD residents need them since PA stopped recognizing FL non-resident ones (and PA won't issue if you don't have one from your home state).

Great - if we added the population of ALL of those states, we MIGHT get CLOSE to LA. In other words, a nice start, but in the end, no one will even notice since no one lives in those states. Once you get CA, NY, WA and FL you have over 40 % of the population of the country. I mean seriously, OC alone has OVER THREE TIMES the population of MT.

will a constitutional ever be legal nationally? Like, will there be a day when anyone can carry without a permit? Like after a supreme court decision or something?

That's *because* they won't give you one if you don't have one in your home state.

Florida non resident implies you don't live there.

PA though, you can't get it through the mail anymore either. You have to pick up in person. Can't remember if you can mail in the completed application though. Fill out form, hand in paperwork, 3 days later you're done.

There was a bill in the house and senate but they both died this past month. It was the National Reciprocity Act. If you possessed any CCL/CCP you were able to carry in any state that offers a CCP/CCL. But like I said, it died sadly.

Of course.

We can't have some scrub with constitutional carry from AZ carrying his filthy weapon in our pristine, ultrasafe People's Republik of Kalifornistan.

Utah just leap frogged Colorado on the list of where to locate my next start-up. And I know a few other entrepreneurs that are shifting from CO to TX as the DEM controlled State gov't seems to be enacting the DC playbook, and that's not good for business. Would not be surprised to see Magpul move regardless.

Sorry about that.

I'll create it's own thread, if it gets out of the NV Senate.
It just got introduced and hasn't been through any committees yet.
Meaning it's too early to tell where this will go.

I didn't know that, and I live here! It's almost constitutional carry now, i.e. shall issue, unlicensed open carry, car carry, etc. Great news.

Good job Utah voters! I'm hoping for constitutional carry in Oregon. Then California would be surrounded. Any chances?

I'm moving to Utah in about 4 months, as soon as our house in completed. I have my Utah permit, but it's awfully nice to hear about more pro 2A stuff in Utah. Reinforces the fact that we made the right decision.

Utah's has a much better chance of passing IMO. The GOP controls both houses in UT, but in NV Dems control both houses.

Its dirtier business than just that. In PA the issuing authority is the sheriff, which gives Philly the ability to play games. For example, if you have two parking tickets (and who doesn't have parking tickets in the city?)? Sorry, you do not possess good moral character and can't get a permit.

Philly residents were thus getting non-resident FL permits and carrying due to the wording in PA law that doesn't require you have a PA permit if you're a PA resident. A new anti-gun AG was elected (from Philly) and she modified the FL/PA reciprocity agreement to only FL residents instead of just stating it does not apply to PA residents to fix the "problem."

It's not a problem with me as long as we stay on Utah. Good info for those near by. Hoping the best for you Nevada folk.

Socalbowhunter, where about are you headed in Utah. I'm from up in Ogden area. Also, check out utahconcealedcarry.com TONS of great info there and all super helpful/knowledgeable people to help you out once you're there.

The alcohol laws are still strict but you can get "High-point" (anything over 3.2%) beer in microbrew houses now. But you still have to go to the state liquor store for all flavored beer (wine coolers), "high point" normal beer, wines and hard liquor. It's all priced off a per-bottle amount too, so a 6pk is going to cost well over 8-9$

In light of the various state-of-residency reciprocity issues, it’s interesting that the Florida CWL, for one, doesn’t provide any indication of residency.
