My first Colorado elk in my third trip out. This was a public land fair chase hunt, no farm or paid guide. We went 4 for 4 that year as you can see the view out the back of my truck.

Yep, my bad. No wonder no one got it. Of course I try not to go in either store much.

Here's my Springbok that I took in the Kalahari Desert last year.

Fjold - Could you PLEASE stop posting all these pics. I am tired of the jealousy that instantly jumps in my throat at these great hunts. It truly is not fair to do such a thing

Fjold - wow, beautiful critter. Did you get to keep any trophy from it? I've heard that a lot of times hunters don't get to bring anything back from Africa, except pictures.

A lot of people after a couple of trips to Africa do that but this was my first trip so I had all the big horns done as european mounts (horns and skulls on plaques) along with the tusks of the warthog, I had the zebra skin turned into a felt backed rug and I had a shoulder mount done of this Steenbok.

My Steenbok from last year also:

Here's the hole that a 375 H&H Mag leaves at 100 yards;

The bear we got was eaten and the skin was taken as the trophey - and is now a rug. Bear actually tastes very good. At least the one I've eaten did. I think that it probably depends on what their diet is made up of as well - I've heard that northern coastal bears that eat a lot of fish taste nasty. The one I ate was an inland bear.

You would have loved my last trip to Texas this week - I killed 10 nice hogs - one of which had clearly been in a tussle with some dogs - a nice 250lb boar. My buddy and I got on them with the AR's out in the middle of a semi-dry lake bed - they were about 400-500 yards to the shore where they could get cover - and we had 25 and 30 round mags (i was shooting a 6.8, so 25 for me). We got to about 250 yards and then lit them up. F-U-N!!!!
The 2 of us shot 10 pigs in 2 hours, then we got a few more the next day and a couple more on the last day. I was in hog heaven.
The guide that works for us out there is a Dog-Hog guy and was pretty happy to see that big dead boar in the middle of the lake.

I'm hoping that we'll be able to get out next month and take the night vision scopes out and really get on them. My buddy that lives there is talking about maybe getting a silencer too...winning combination. I LOVE TEXAS, why can't California follow their excellent example.

I was in Namibia and at one of the lodges there were the graves of three of his dogs that they've buried in the last few years.

mine too.

All necessary precautions are taken to protect them.

You can see the cut vests and collars in the pics, thats the best you can really do. The dogs love it, If they don't then they aren't much for hunting, and they don't get taken out.

All the dogs that bay, live to bay. period.

Any dog that dosent want to hunt just dosent. its the dogs choice. Like the saying goes "you cant make a dog hunt". Like I have said before. I take all the best precautitions for my dogs. I buy the best most expensive protective vests for them, feed them the best food I can afford, keep them in the best physical shape. I have invested in the best field medical kit that would rival an ambulance. These dogs take a huge ammount of time and training. Nothing makes me more proud than watching them work. They are happyest in the field doing what they love. If i stopped hunting today It would break my heart watching them sit at home doing nothing. I dont believe for a minute they hunt for me. Most of the time im hunting for them.
