This seems very unlikely. Do you have more information?

Anyone actually seen firearms in WalMart in this state?

I have my skeptical hat on as well. I think they might consider the bay area too much of a high crime area to sell firearms, heck, at most the stores they don't even sell ammo.

Where I could see this would be further up North in the smaller areas.

Is this a recent development in CA walmarts? I know 8 or 10 years ago when I was in high school the Wally World in Chico was the spot for inexpensive charles daly shotguns and low base target shells.

Seems like I heard the story that WalMart got in trouble with the ATF and/or the CA Bureau of Firearms over paperwork screwups by poorly trained employees and got out of trouble by agreeing to not sell firearms any more in California.

Anyone else remember if this is correct?

Hit up the Mt. View store today. They said that they had just gotten a shipment. They had boxes and boxes of 12g #8 bird shot for $22 for a box of $100. I picked up 4 boxes for some target practice and as a nice stash for the bug out kit.

They had it all, 22lr, 380, and big boxes of 9mm. And yes, .45 FMJ. Maybe I'm the only one that has been having a hard time finding cheap 45 ammo but there it was. Sure enough as I walk up I see some guying eying it. Of all the ammo, the 45 was the only stuff in short supply. But he opted for some 9mm. Then as the sales guy comes back to help me this woman walks up and announces that she intends to buy some 45 as well. Oh really? Lucky for her there was a whole stack pushed to the back. I picked up 400 rounds. I would have like to finish it off but I didn't want to be greedy.

Oh and there was no "limit" but I was asked to pay at the counter in the sports department.

You are definitely not the only one that is having a hard time finding cheap 45 that is indoor range usable (i.e. - not steel jacketed/steel case (450 round Tula 230gr fmj polymer coated steel spam tin @ $126 on CTD)). I like the Wally world deal on the Remington UMC 250 round 45 brick (for around $85 somehting) and have been trying to buy those 100 round winchester white box packs but I haven't seem them in stock at the Mountain View Wally.

Well I was in Paso Robles, CA Wallyworld about a month ago and they don't even sell guns there. If they don't sell guns in the Paso Walmart they probably won't sell them at any other Walmart in the state.

Rancho Cordova sold out of .45ACP. I got the last 5 boxes of Federal

Tons and tons of 9MM and .40. A good supply of other handgun as well as most rifle calibers.

There is no wallmart anywhere near me.. nearest one is in the ghetto... so ghetto...so so so ghetto.. I wont park my car in the parking lot. If i had to go there, I would have to empty my car of anything that could be mistaken of value... And even still... that place is so ghetto. I find ammo to be cheaper online anyways... I dont have to drive to the ghetto, I dont have a 6box limit, and the selection is much better

Milpitas Walmart usually has plenty of WWB/UMC 9mm .40SW and .357 when I go there. No .45FMJ in stock at all when I've went but they usually have a few boxes of the Winchester PDX in 30rnd boxes.

Milpitas Update:

WWB 9mm for $22.97 - probably 50 boxes

WWB .40S&W value packs for $28.97 - probably 10 boxes

Federal 9mm for $10.47 - probably 25 boxes

These are the estimates after I purchased my stash

I agree that different Wallmarts can have quite a different clientel. Out of curiosity, where do you find pistol ammo cheaper than Walmart?

Milpitas as of closing last night had about 12 boxes of .45 fmj

Went to the San Lorenzo locations as well. My advice... Don't. Horrible store, had no ammo what so ever. And were out of stock on everything I was actually looking for.

Just came from Milpitas. Found a 100 round pack of Remington 38sp +p JHP for $29.97.

Plenty of WWB 9mm and 40S&W, and other calibers too.

I was really looking for Federal bulk 22lr, there was none on the shelf that I could see.

There was WWB definitely. I saw some Federal too, just can't remember if it was 9mm or 40sw or both.

Stopped by milpitas about 7:30 and picked up some 9mm to go with my new FNX-9!

They still had a ton of everything, including 15+ boxes of Federal 45ACP!

Was it the short, older, Filipino gentleman who helped you out? I gave him a hard time earlier looking for the 38 special, but he helped me out. Better customer service than going there early or late and having to go to the Auto/Oil desk to ask for assistance in sporting goods.

Be sure to do a report/review on that FNX 9!

Called Mt view and they said they had UMC 45 ACP in and when I arrived they did not have any in stock. They did have a bunch of WWB 230g JHP at about $30 per 50.

I went to Milpitas and they had about 4 boxes of the UMC 45 ACP mega packs, less the one I bought. $84 for 250.

I guess the ammo crisis is over but I hate having to still roam between walmarts.

Not over until we get the prices back down. Factory ammo is way too expensive.

Just an FYI that I should have posted sooner (my bad)

The Chadbourne Road Walmart location in Fairfield was closed, the last time I tried to stop in there. It no longer comes up on their store locator, so I don't think it's just closed for remodeling or repairs.

Milpitas Walmart has tons of 9mms and .45s. They have zilch for 12guage Birdshots, which was pretty odd.

OK boys and girls, here it is - the famous Nor Cal Wally World Update Thread.

Every time you step into your WalMart just stop by the Ammo Counter and then post to let us know what's out of stock and what's in.

This thread helped keep up hope for hundreds of us during the last Great Obama Gun and Ammo Buying Frenzy that started Fall 2008. Ammo at any price was hard to come by. It was Spring 2010 before the ammo supplies were back to mostly normal.

Hard Times are upon us once again and we must pull together if we are to survive.

Let's see those posts.

I'm NOT trying to thread-jack here...

I've got a post over in "Ammo and Reloading" entitled: "Walmart Stores that Do Not Sell Ammo "
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=532044

Thought it might be helpful, to reference that post, in this thread. The info on non-stocking locations is either from my own personal experience, or from contributions by fellow members. In rare cases, there has been a tiny bit of confusion, over actual cities and I've verified those, with the store in question, by phone.

This started since I live in a non-ammo county, but travel extensively for work, throughout NorCal. I would find the nearest Walmart to where I was working and go check for ammo. Obviously, I wasted a few trips, here and there. So, I started keeping track and that evolved into the thread I started, on CG.

I used to snap photos, at the stocking locations I visited, (with the intent of posting them in this thread) but usually there was a day or two delay in getting the pics up. A couple days (heck, even a couple hours) would usually see a huge difference in what was available.
