That is what I did plus I read the entirety of this thread. Maybe go back 20 pages or so and read from there? But for the most part, the Sheriff's website is all you really need.

The Sheriff is still granting permits based solely on a desire to carry for self defense. Nothing's changed, and he will continue to be re-elected as a result.

My sources from behind the walls says he's already made up his mind and will be going back to his old ways most likely after re election if he wins. Things don't look too good in the future for us if he's still in office.

This needs to be confirmed and, if true, widely disseminated. Is Pat Withrow going to run again? He's a rock solid 2A and CCW supporter.

Word is from credible sources. Just lately my buddies neighbors ccw request was turned by the sheriff for no reason. I kinda doubt the sheriffs gonna come out now saying the truth until re election this fall?

Hi Slowkick, I live in Tracy and am interested in CCW. Any tips you can give the San Joaquin folks on the process? TIA!

Tracycali, the best advice I can give you is fill out the paper work from the SO. when you make an appointment for your initial interview be open and honest about every LE interaction you've had in your past. I promise you it all comes out on the background check. For me they went back 30+ years. After that it's a waiting game. Don't think about it, don't worry about it, don't trip. As you can see it took 15 months for me to get approved. You'll receive a call from another investigator to verify nothings changed. Once he's done he passes the file up stairs and it's pretty quick at that point. Research CCW offerings from the certified instructors for San Joaquin. I personally recommend first response. Duncan and Elloy conducted one of the best classes I've been to. I rolled the dice and took my course in May because of my busy schedule. Once you get the call you'll have 90 days to complete your course and make an appt to pick up the golden ticket.

Again the most important thing I can advise to keep your sanity is set it and forget it until the SO contacts you.

Hope this helps.

The Conservative Republicans of San Joaquin will be hosting Sheriff Moore at Mimi's Cafe on Pacific Ave in Stockton on Monday, July 17th. There will be a no-host dinner and networking with Sheriff Moore from 5:30-6:30 PM. The actual meeting will start at 6:30 PM.

No RSVP required and admission is free.

It will be a political meeting but may be a good chance to meet and talk with the sheriff regarding his thinking on the future of CCW in San Joaquin County and maybe put in your two cents.

I will not be attending but thought I would pass this information along.

Luck not needed. It's simple and straightforward. The toughest question you'll get will be: "Has anything changed?"

Day you pick up. The card is "made" while you wait.

Back on July 9th BubbaCluck reported that the Conservative Republicans of San Joaquin were hosting Sheriff Moore at a no-host dinner. I'm wondering if anyone on this chat attended the function and can report what, if any, comments Sheriff Moore made about CCW.

I think he did that to a couple of people. You might have to go back a couple pages to find out who.

Mine was one year. Only reason I could think of was past traffic tickets.

Haven't had traffic tickets in over 10yrs+. Nothing I could think of that would be caused for the restriction. Other than just randomly pick who goes and stays- like little mind games. That's why we need to get him out and get Patrick Withrow into office.

Applied June 26, 16, call to check JUL 26, 17, as of today AUG 20, 17, no further reply. Nothing on my record or any traffic citations and have CCW's from multiple other states. Not quite sure what is going on...

How about you call and ask them? Maybe get an appointment with Sheriff Moore and he can tell you himself.

Patience is a mighty virtue. The good news is that once your initial permit wait is over, things speed up considerably after that. Approval for my renewal permit took just 16 days after the interview.

Sheriff Moore quotes from recent interview (not my interview, my friend's, i live in a free county- no interviews here)
"I do not have to accept 'self defence' as good cause anymore"
"I think only the police should be armed"
"Just call the police if you are being robbed"

Time for a new Sheriff San Joaquin...
oh and btw, he was very rude, very condescending and a general all around rhymes with tICK.
enjoy that calpers pension while it lasts "sheriff".

3rd post on this page quoting from credible sources or second hand information from friends. If you didn't hear it directly from Sheriff Moore how about not posting at all?

That's odd. I recently turned in my renewal application. My entire Good Cause Statement was two words long: "Self defense." 16 days later, my renewal was approved.

That's odd, too. I'm not a cop, but Sheriff Moore just rearmed me for 2 more years without restriction.

Why did your friend even have to meet with Sheriff Moore? That usually only happens when an applicant has some issues causing concern.

Just to keep this thread moving, I did my renewal interview on July 25th and got the confirmation email today. 2 months beats the 1 year initial wait time.
Off to do training now.

Well, need to pick up a certified letter from the post office tomorrow from SJSO so I guess I'm either being denied or having to meet with the Sheriff personally. Odd though, have multiple permits from other states and zero on my record. I'll update after I pick up the letter and if I have a meeting, then, will wait until after that is concluded.
