Default Should I live in Sacramento County or El Dorado County

I will be relocating to Northern California soon. My place of work will be along the Highway 50 corridor. So I'm looking for somewhere to live in the Folsom/El Dorado Hills/Cameron Park area. Is there a big difference in living in Sacramento County versus living in El Dorado County? Is one county easier than the other in getting a License to Carry? Any proximity to gun ranges or BLM land that I should consider? Thanks in advance for any responses.

I'm in Fair Oaks which is under Sac Sheriff, CCW is shall issue, but he may be leaving for bigger and better political things. Last time the majority of people running for Sheriff were pro CCW though. Best range is by far Sac Valley Shooting center, you'll need to befriend a voting member to take full advantage, but it is worth it. Lots of land you can go shooting on as well. For indoor ranges I prefer the Gun Range as they are a flat flee and don't freak out about CCW holders, $25 transfers too.

Other things to think about, crossing the American River is always a pain during traffic, my commute takes just as long to cross the river and reach the freeway as I do on the freeway (about 40 minutes total). SMUD power is a good bit cheaper than PG&E. If your work is by a light rail stop, it runs up the 50 and a good number of people I work with take it. Also, you may have heard lots of companies wont ship gun stuff to Sac, that's only an issue in Sac City.

Folsom for me, still has that small town feeling. Still in Sacramento County so CCW no issue and ammo delivery no problem. Fairly close to Sacramento Valley Shooting Center

Be aware that many online ammo vendors will not ship to City of Sacramento, based on a mis-reading of an ordinance that requires Sac gun shops to collect fingerprints (there's a City Attorney letter that says that the ordinance does not intend to regulate sales outside Sac's city limits, but some vendors refuse anyway).

Be aware that, as Cal Alumnus says, many ammo shippers won't ship to the City of Sacramento. But that means "inside the official city limits". If you are out in the County, say in Carmichael or Fair Oaks, the above doesn't apply.

My shooting buddy and bestie lives in ElDorado County and says it is relatively quick and easy to get a CCW there and they don't restrict the number of guns you can have on your license. If I had it to do over again, I'd live in El Dorado county.

It's pretty clear to me that generally, the more 'rural' the County, (that is the less 'urban'), the easier it gets with the Sheriff. One notable exception is Yolo County, which isn't all that easy, probably because the city of Davis dominates the voting block.

El Dorado county will put you closer to BLM land, but your cost of driving to work everyday would offset that savings. I'm in Sac county, but I've also heard good things about the ease of a CCW in El Dorado. I personally would choose to be up the hill. It's beautiful, and you'll have like minded neighbors (assuming you're above the suburbs).

I'd take El Dorado Hills. Nice town, just over the hill from Folsom, tons of shopping etc. I've heard that El Dorado Sheriff is really easy to get a CCW from and it is probably a lot faster to get one from them than Sac. Co.

Thanks for the warning about being in the city of Sacramento. I wasn't aware of such issues. Though if Gavin Newsom's initiative passes, everyone in California is screwed.

El Dorado Hills.
If we're both lucky, you can buy my house and I'll include the safe I don't want to move.

Anywhere outside of the "city" is good. Sac county is easy to get permit now, huge staff just for ccw stuff.

I live in Folsom, which is in Sacramento county. Folsom is a great town, but given the choice I'd move up 50 into El Do county... or Nevada.

State of Jefferson.......only in our dreams.

I'm all for it but I don't see it ever happening. If it does I'll move to it immediately. Until than I'll stay closer to my place of employment and save on the commute.

If your voting for Trump or Cruz, El Dorado County. If your voting for Hillary or Bernie Sac County.

Cool to see so many folks in the EDH/Folsom area. I've lived in Folsom and El Dorado Hills and while they are both truly excellent places to live, I like being in El Dorado County for many reasons. More conservative, the burn restrictions in Sac Co are crazy, and the less busy feel to EDH than Folsom without losing the ease of access to everything Folsom has to offer. There are other reasons, but honestly you can't go wrong with either. One plus to Sac Co is SMUD - electricity is FAR less expensive than PG&E.

Sac Co. isn't the worst for 2A/freedom loving individuals, but I'd take Eldo Co. any day of the week. Course, when Jones leaves, we could end up with another anti-2A sheriff, but I doubt it. The lawsuit and precedence should keep it virtually shall issue until Gavin and the pol's figure out how to get rid of that.

As close to Nevada as you can,
then you can take a quick drive to buy ammo at Cabelas.

Depends on your situation.

Family where schools are important then Folsom is probably better lots of Intel kids to compete with

Wife who doesn't like the country life? Folsom again.

Country life with the ability to own pigs, goats, horses? El Dorado County.

One thing to be aware of in El Dorado County has EID water which is metered and very expensive.

For you, El Dorado County for the win!

I had a similar decision 5 months ago when I moved from LA. My new job is in Sacramento City, next door to West Sacramento so I was deciding between Sacramento, Yolo, El Dorado and Placer Counties.

Yolo is a no-brainer Nope. Sacramento City is definitely too left for me and that made the county suspect as well. That left me with El Dorado and Placer. Since I would be commuting, I studied the traffic patterns and saw it would be easier for me to commute from Placer than El Dorado so Placer won.

Good luck with your move and new job!

I'm in folsom it's not bad but I'd prefer up the hill a bit more because there is room to spread out and you don't have neighbors constantly trying to get in you business. but I grew up out in the sticks so not much of a fan of living in the city. But getting my ccw was fairly easy.
