Arrow Thinking of a AR9 Build. Better to go maglock or Featureless ? ? ? ?

Whats the best way to go long term? I'm not looknig to be in any gray areas but I do love the way the maglock AR's look. I'll be shooting it at indoor ranges mostly.

Do AR9's hold there value? I'm looking to build up a nice one that takes glock mags.

If Glock mags, featureless may be the better option. I'm not too sure how the market looks for glock lower compatible maglocks. What lower are you interested in??

I have a maglocked AR9 in Colt style. Love that gun. I'm think of getting another 9mmAR, but going featureless and Glock style this time around.

If you ever get to go plinking, a Glock AR9 with only ten rounds empties too fast.
I went featureless.

Freedom week I stocked up on glock mags so I'm building with a Stern Defense ar15 to glock adapter. Swap uppers and buffer to go back to 556. Waiting on bcg and red dot before I can hit the range.

Value? I build for me....AR are near all time low prices. I'm building so I can put money into key parts vs buying something complete and than still have to swap some parts. If you want turn key, Juggernaut has one for 950ish but would have to still covert to featureless to use 10+ mags.

JP barrel $210
Aero upper $65
Raptor charge handle $62
Slr Ti comp $110
Taccom bcg $150
=$497 before add hand guard of your flavor

You can get a Spikes glock lower from Gunfighter Tactical for $160 plus state fees.

We run a featureless AR9 with a Thordsen stock and a bag full of 33 round Glock mags. Also, some PCCs use non-milspec mag releases and it's a lot harder to find fixed mag options.

Only because of mag week, fingrip with the LCM you bought in preparation for your AR9 is the only way to go. AR9’s are super fun to shoot

My vote is featureless with the normal capacity Glock mags you bought in anticipation of this build. Since you mentioned “looks” are important to you, consider checking out our grip... it is featureless, but still matches the look of a modern sporting rifle. A Glock mag AR9 is definitely my next build.

Went with a Thorsden stock for my AR45. I like it a lot actually. My QC10 lower is Glock compatible and has a non-milspec mag release.

Yes, should fit fine. Those lowers look pretty normal on the back end and where the grip fits.

Sometimes billet lowers CAN be machined a little differently and cause the grip not to fit perfectly. If it doesn't fit, email us with a photo and we will take care of you!

An AR9 would be an excellent self/home defense firearm. It has numerous self /home defense advantages over rifle calibers:

- More ammo, more practice
- More Self Defense Ammo options (think HST)
- Less audio shock
- Less Flash
- Less Recoil
- Less worry about over penetration
- More ranges allow it

For Rifle Home Defense in California, going Featureless is a no brainer:

- More Capacity (less mag changes)
- No Fuss Mag Change (if you have to)
- Easier to clear jams
.
.

Default Rules for Registered AW build

First post here so I hope it's in the right area. With owning a registered AW AR receivers from aprox. 20 years ago, are there restrictions to building it to an AR9? Do I just order the upper kit and a mag adapter with all the features I want? Is less that 16" barrel also legal?

If you have a RAW, then no restrictions. You can't have shorter than a 16" barrel though. But OAL can be under 30" as long as it is 26" or more

Go featureless, I used a New Frontier Armory lower, pinned stock and a Featureless Arms grip. I now have a Taccom muzzle brake on it.

Thanks Jimbo74. Seems like I can do the old school AW build just not the handbun length. Maybe its better for an ar9 to get a new lower and build it without the items that classify it as an AW. It's only for range plinking.

If it were me, unless I have some hi-cap Glockazines, I would just get one of the many magwell/magazine adapter setups, a heavy buffer, and an upper.

Even if I did have hi-caps I would consider one of the Glock adapters. You end up with an easier to use, better rifle.
