Default Fresno County CCW, no 10+ rounders! But wait, now it's ok! 4/25 update

My local range, The Firing Line in Clovis, just posted an email to CCW instructors from the Fresno County Sheriff's office stating CCW holders may NOT use mags holding more than 10 rounds at this time. Kinda puzzling since Sheriff Mims has been in favor of citizens having 10+ mags.

This does not surprise me. Just be glad you even got a permit.

Why would any CCW holder care? Hypothetically, wouldn't one just use a stand cap mag and be happy they had the most possible rounds available in the event of an emergency? Worry about the courts after your *** makes it out.

The courts would never be involved. Carrying legally-acquired and possessed magazines is legal. The Fresno Sheriff's policy is just that -- a policy. I don't live in Fresno County, but my policy is to defend myself and survive. I would be interested to see if the supposedly pro-2A sheriff in Fresno actually revokes anyone's CCW permit for carrying legally-acquired and possessed magazines.

I wonder how all the Retired LE with Fresno permits feel about that new guideline

I'm almost certain that Sheriff Mims never approved this, and it was some middle manager. A well-written, respectful memorandum with the appropriate legal citations written to her should set this straight.

If you're caught with a LCM, you can lose your CCW according to this, at which point your choice would be risking a misdemeanor or going unarmed.

THIS is why you dont ask.

Someone made a cya decision because of repeated requests.

Before this NEW policy, it was legal and not prohibited.

Wheres that thread i started where DBS weighed in that they “DGAF” and were going to ask?

I'm not sure if it affects retired LEOs, since they were specifically exempted from the so called "HiCap" law.

Retired LE does not need to obtain a CCW, since it is already covered under 25900, and 25905 PC.

I don't understand why anyone would ask. I swear CA gun owners are some of the -------------------------------- on the planet. ( You can fill in the blanks with however any many expletives feel good).

If it's legal, it's legal. If I was in Fresno I would carry SCM, and if they tried to take my CCW away I'd sue them based on the law stating it's legal.

The Firing Line wasn't supportive of 10+ rounders. They seem to promote this negative viewpoint.

What does the Firing Line have to do with CCW's? Wouldn't the Sheriff notify the instructors directly? Why is the range notifying instructors?

But yeah, I agree, some idiot that just got SCM's probably asked.

Furthermore there is nothing posted on their website or at the beginning of the application process that mentions any restrictions.

So if it isn't printed on your permit, there isn't any restriction.

The Firing Line offers CCW initial/renewal classes. They were notified by email directly from the Sheriff's department.

Currently binding authority says you don't have a right to a CCW. IA is free to set the terms of issue.

We try to use penal code wording here, the law is what we are discussing and it keeps everyone on the same page.

I prefer clarity above making a statement to a room that already agrees with me.

I would have expected an email, or maybe a letter in the mail.

It doesn’t make sense to me since she was just in favor of the ruling magazine ruling. Plus that email is cropped and you can’t even tell who sent it. She’s always been Pro 2A, I don’t see why anything would change.

My guess it’s some middle man manager who made the call without consulting with the sheriff

Here’s her email, Margaret.Mims@fresnosheriff.org if you want to send her an email voicing your opinion

It was some middle man manager who sent out that email. If you read the rest of the thread you’d see that the sheriff made an official announcement saying that there is no restrictions for the magazines we can carry
