Default Glock RTF

Shooting my 17 od today really has me wanting another glock. I dig the rtf frame and wanted to know if they still make them? I remember about a year ago seeing them for sale at a gun store in thousand oaks but haven't seem them since.

Haven’t seen any in awhile, I think Glock still makes them but only in batches and no telling when they will be making them.

As long as they are still making Gen 3’s for CA, I think there is still a shot at them making more RTF’s. I think the same could be said for the C models.

I have a RTF 17 and a C model 22, I set them both up with the same mods. A minus connector and a 6 lb trigger spring, both are great.

The RTF2 was a variation that was available for Gen 3 Glock pistols.

It was discontinued as a standard production item in 2011, but it remains an option for special orders and commerative runs.

The last time Glock released a batch of RTF2 Glocks was in 2017.
^Special (limited release) commerative run of Glock 17 Gen 3 RTF2, Glock 19 Gen 3 RTF2, and Glock 22 Gen 3 RTF2.

So, unless there is an overrun of Gov/Mil/LE contract RTF2 Glocks or a distributor makes a special order for RTF2 Glocks or Glock releases another commerative run of RTF2 Glocks, they are pretty much unavailable as a newly made factory item on the civilian market.

Which means, you need to search the used market and auction sites, if you want a RTF2 Glock.

FAQ...

RTF = Rough Textured Frame

Gen 1 = non-RTF
Gen 2 = RTF
Gen 2.5 = RTF
Gen 3 = RTF or RTF2
Gen 4 = RTF3
Gen 4.5 = RTF3
Gen 5 = RTF3

RTF was created as a replacement for the orignial non-RTF, because of end-user feedback wanting a more secure feeling grip.
RTF2 and RTF3 were created due to end-user request for a more secure grip for use in humid/wet environments.
^RTF2 ended up as a specific duty use texture and RTF3 ended up being the new texture for Gen 4+.
*RTF2 was determined to be too harsh/rough for conceal carry due to the texture accelerating the wear on clothing and being uncomfortable against bare skin.

Rocklin Armory has them, $550 brand new - saw one a few days ago there in the display case of new dealer (not consignment) guns. RTF(2?) G17

So I would assume they are making the rounds again... sorry I can’t be sure if it was RTF or RTF2 because I am not schooled on the difference, but it was one of them.

The RTF 2 is a great gun. Kind of like Velcro to the hand. Can be a bit rough on bare skin.

RIVER CITY GUN EXCHANGE also had them for $559 (MAR 2019 Ad) but they are G22 in 40 S&W with the fish gill slide serrations, they might have a few left?

havent seen them in 9mm for a while

I purchased a new G17 RTF2 at Hook, Line and Sinker in Oakley 2 or 3 months ago. I donít know that they had anymore but it sounds like there are some around.

I didnít realize it was a potentially hard to find model at the time. It, along with a G43 I pptíd the same day was my first glock(primarily own 1911s).

The RTF definitely felt much more secure in hand as compared to the standard frame which is why I chose it. The RTF should be the standard frame in my opinion.

Rtf2 is the best. Good luck with your search.

If you can find anything RTF2, do it. It feels just right in the hand with no slippage.

I love my 21SF-RTF2 and will never sell it.

I fired a friends G17 RTF2, impressed. Love the grip, felt better than my stippled 17.

I had one, and think that the fish gills suck for racking compared to sandard ones. If you grab the fish gills backwards, they actually have more grip... funny.

Ideally I'd prefer one without fish gills but it wouldn't be a deal breaker. They just make the glock look awkward.

This is true, unfortunately they went with looks over function. Turn the gills around and it grips much better.

Yea, it was mentioned up top; while keeping your eyes open on the used market, check with your FFL to see if they can check with their distributor. Even Turner's offered to do that for me on something they didn't ever carry. The only thing was they have to "work up" a retail price because they don't carry it in their system. I didn't do it. I'm allergic to retail prices. Need sale price. But, perhaps an indi LGS would have more movement on price.

I bought my G17 RTF new off the shelf in 2010. Been limited runs since 2011, as previously mentioned. I have the fish gill serrations.

Iíve got 2 RTF2 G17ís. One I bought around 2011 and the other in 2017. I hope that these are special ordered again as I would like to buy another RTF2. They are my favorite Glock. Regardless of the roster the RTF2 would be tough choice against even a Gen 5. RTF2 is a no brained against a Gen 4 IMO.

If you can't find them anywhere else... they have the straight slide serrations RTF2 at Rifle Gear:

https://www.riflegear.com/p-8750-glo...mm-pistol.aspx

I know the listing says not to CA... but I know they were shipping straight serration RTF2's last batch and just retaining the 17 round mags. They were selling the Vicker's RTF2 (no fishgills) 10 round in CA till they went OOS and the standard cap from TX to your FFL minus mags.

Cool guys to deal with. Would not surprise me if you call and they say they are GTG minus mags if you FFL is GTG. This model looks the exact same as the Vicker's without the steel sights, grip plug, ext slide release interpreted as on-roster.

TWO LEFT.
