Great little carbine, mine works with all size Glock mags even aftermarket. Haven’t found a aftermarket Glock mag it won’t work with yet. That said there are a couple negatives.

1) it’s a heavy little carbine.
2) using the supplied top rail, even small red dot sights sit too high. Not talking about co-witnessing don’t really care about that. Just the position of your head/eye when shooting. It was unnatural for me, I went back to the irons. The irons are a good military peep design, they work great for me.

I should've waited for the Gen 2. After market forend are over $100. The updated version is only $50 more.

That DROS thing must suck. If you were free you could sneak it home and bury it in the back of the safe. If she manages to notice, you say "Oh, I bought that thing last year".

I agree on point #2, while I can get nice grouping with a red dot on the supplied top rail, it just doesn't feel quite as comfortable as the good cheek weld you can get with the stock and the peep iron sights. I really do like the iron sights that come with this Ruger.

Here is an easy way to get a proper cheek weld with a electronic sight. Use one of Brian Miller's mounts that replaces the factory rear sight.

This allows for the dot to be about 3/4"-1" lower vs being mounted on the receiver rail.

Here is my setup:

Brian's stuff is nice. Lower 1/3 co-witness.

I actually think the PMM looks the best so far... but I would like to try something that covers the top of the barrel.

I think the PMM actually matches the rest of the gun, which is pretty cool.

The new Ruger models with the extended rail are in. I was expecting them mid May but Turners called to do paperwork. I went in today and it really looks nice in person. It was $599, so $60 more than the base model. The rail is definitely worth $60, but I doubt weíll see it sold separately for $60.

My red dot co-witnesses (lower 1/3).. but it's a REALLY low mount..

Yea, it's a bit heavy but with standard cap mags it's a great carbine.

I'm happy I waited, as this is what I really wanted to get so I can put a scout scope up front. Riflegear seems to have a good price. It'll be nice to be able to practice with a 9mm instead of a 22 rifle and have something that's a step up from a 22 for the family. It'll make a good transition to the Ruger Mini14.

Miller’s mounts are the only way to go when using a red dot, I’m sure at some point I’ll go there.

Next for me will be a 40 PCC, great round for a PCC. Think I’m going to wait for a Talo FDE or OD.

I find it to be just the opposite. I struggle with the factory sights, they sit too low for me but the little TRS-25 sits perfect. Its probably because of my big head.

I, too, felt the red dot (Vortex Venom) sits too high on the rail, so I ordered the Taccom rear sight replacement. Haven't gotten it yet, but hopefully it allows me to have the nice cheek weld. I like the iron sights, shot well with them, but I want a red dot on it.

Great little carbine, very pleased. Just received the Ruger factory case. A nice addition. Available from Ruger direct, call customer service.

Thanks for the link. Looks like a nice case. Been looking for one that is compact like the 10/22 case.

This "clone" Ruger case is good and cheaper. I have a 2.5 prism optic and it fits, mounted, fine in the case

Got mine on Amazon last year, I assume they are available elsewhere

If you are waiting around for those to come back into stock, you might as well check out Skinner folding take-down cases (22" or longer), Savior 24" case, Skinner flat cases... etc...

http://www.skinnersights.com/scabbards_20.html

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KX73NSY...YJ5?th=1&psc=1

Personally, I like the Savior and Skinner more.

Less than half the cost of the Ruger. Ruger would also do themselves a favor if they left their logo off.

The Ruger logo is attached with Velcro (hook and loop). Off and on in a second.

So, the Ruger logo is an additional $40.

I got an iron-on RUGER patch for my Skinner folding take-down case for $3 on EBAY. I think that makes the bag $63. IF that FSDC bag is really 1200 denier, my Savior bag must be 3600D.

I might cover up the FSDC logo with some black sticky loop panel and slap on some morale patch or leave it blank.

I've had one of these for awhile now and here's what I see. They are a very useful and fun carbine cheap to shoot and very robust in build. I have a problem with mine and suspected the ejector but I think it's the extractor, could be wrong but it's at least a part of it. Here's what I found on disassembly. The extractor it's self had a large burr on it so I dressed it, then I found burs where the bolt head pin and extractor pin goes through so I dressed them to. I'll see what it does at the next range day. I have to comment on this to Ruger is using very soft steel in these parts the file cut way to easy. The springs feel mushy soft to and Ruger does have a history (at least with me) of "low bid" weak springs. HTH

I might cover up the FSDC logo with some black sticky loop panel and slap on some morale patch or leave it blank.
Black, indelible marker. Saturate the white logo, and it disappears. I've done this on Midway bags for years

Gentleman:

Seeking suggestions; red dot recommendations?

Currently have an old EoTech that I had laying around. Much too big and sits too high. Taking a serious look at the Leupold Delta Point.

Comments? thoughts? recommendations?

Fast Fire III, Holosun HS507C, Vortex Crossfire RD-1, Holosun 503GU, etc... I'd decide whether you want Aimpoint style or RMR style first.
