Default SKS stock spring

How is the spring under the trigger grouping put into the stock. I bought a Chinese SKS and can't seem to get that spring out and don't want to risk damaging anything. I also have another stock on hand that's a little less beat up I may want to try but it doesn't have that little spring. What should I do to install that other stock. Can i get that spring online?

i have tried to remove that spring in my YUGO and my Chinese. it did not budge. not worth ruining it trying to take it out. i think baked on old cosmo is the culprit.

the spring is screwed in, unfortunately trying to unscrew it expands the spring and makes it impossible to take out. id just get a similar spring at ace hardware or something.

i have never seen that spring removed. Why are you trying to take it out?

Don't cut it. It's tight for a reason. If you cut it you risk having the trigger group falling out when you shoot it.

haha. Anyways like I said, I have another stock thats less beat up and carved up (all kinds of carvings from its previous chinese users...) The one I have is actually really clean and its only engraving is a good looking soviet star with 1951 next to it. The only problem is when I put it on the wood on that tube over the barrel wont match, lol.

I tried a different spring with poor results, it didn't have enough tension and actually causes the receiver to be able to move up and down (which id assume would destroy any chance of decent accuracy.) I used pliers on the original stock spring and twisted it back and forth and worked it out without breaking the old stock. The new stock is great and in much better condition. I blued most of the metal parts as well. The most fortunate thing that happened is I remembered to get to the firing pin and clean the remaining cosmoline off of it and oil it! That could of been bad, it was rather sticky...

it seems the YUGOS have the tightest spring on the stock.

It's super tight on my yugo as well...I have to use a rubber mallet and hit the trigger guard in an angle to make it snap in. On the other hand, my chinese type 56, it's much easier, I just put my weight on it and locks in nice and snug...

I would suggest that you not oil the firing pin. Leave it dry.

Ive got one that the tang of the trigger group is slightly bent up. Impossible to snap into place by banging tapping or hammering. I have to C clamp it to get it to lock in

For my Yugo's, in order to get the trigger group to snap in, you have to push it forward HARD before pushing down at a forward angle. My other SKS's seem to snap in a little more easily just pushing straight down.
