Basic Handgun course LVL 1 July 7th, 2018
This course is a fundamentals program where you will learn or perfect the groundwork for handgun mastery. This course is suitable for all levels of experience, from the novice to those comfortable with their handgun. If you have never shot or held a handgun before, or want to strengthen your skill set, you will find this course meets your needs. In this one-day course we will cover basic handgun safety, nomenclature, loading, and unloading, the foundational marksmanship skills (grip, stance, sight picture/alignment, trigger manipulation and more), as well as reloading under stress and presentation from the holster. We will also practice manipulations for malfunctions.
Prerequisites: None. You must supply your own handgun. Ammo requirements are approximately 300 rounds. Please bring the following to the course: 1. Handgun. Centerfire only, no rimfire handguns. 2. Three magazines or three-speed loaders if using a revolver. 3. 300 rounds minimum ammo. 4. Proper clothing for the weather. 5. Snacks. lunch and plenty of water. 6. Please clean your gun in advance of the course or bring your gun cleaning kit with you. 7. Notebook and pen. 8. Eye and ear protection.< 9. Sunscreen, hats, long sleeves shirts, long pants, training shoes. 10. Belt, holster, magazine pouch or other means of carrying additional ammunition, weapon cleaning equipment. 11. Gloves and elbow pad- optional. Class schedule 0800- 0830 Introduction and safety brief. 0830-0845 Handgun nomenclature and basic functions/cycle 0845-0915 Loading and unloading in an administrative setting. Dry practice. 0915-0945 Fundamentals of marksmanship, lecture. 0945-1000 Dry practice of fundamentals. 1000-1010 Break 1010-1100. Live fire, marksmanship fundamentals. Various ranges. 1100-1130 Presentations from the holster. Dry practice and live fire. 1130-1215 Lunch break 1215-1300. Live fire practice of fundamentals of marksmanship and presentations from the holster. 1300-1315 Slide lock reloading under stress, lecture. 1315-1330 Slide lock reloading, dry practice. 1330-1400 slide lock reloading, live fire. This block will also stress marksmanship and presentations from the holster. 1400-1415 Tactical reloading, lecture. 1415-1430 Tactical reloading, dry practice. 1430-1500 Live fire from 5 yards to 15 yards. 1500-1510 Break 1510-1520 Type 1 malfunctions, lecture, and dry practice. 1520-1530 Type 2 malfunctions, lecture, and dry practice. 1530-1545 Type 3 malfunctions, lecture, and dry practice. 1545-1615 Malfunction drills, live fire. 1615-1700 Live fire drills.
