Default Pilot

I hear that commuter airlines are hurting for pilots and that they would retrain to currency pilots who haven't flown in years. Anybody know if this is true and who does such a rusty pilot contact for work?

It is a pilots market right now, which is why airlines like Great Lakes that only pay pilots $19 a hour are getting put under....

Good riddance, the place is scum to work for..

They’re snatching up all kinds of folks they wouldn’t touch in years previous. We have young Army pilots with no FW time getting hired because several of the regionals have discovered that helicopter pilots flying advanced aircraft are a good pool to dip into. They do a provisional hire and go through the FW add on’s needed to fit into the training pipeline.

What are your quals and how long since you’ve flown? I would suggest digging into qualification info for the ones you’re interested in and if getting some current flying under your belt. They have lowered many requirements and they aren’t requiring an ATP with the regional airlines, they’re doing that in house.

Friend of mine flies for Southwest and he mentioned that there is an extreme shortage of pilots across the board. He even mentioned they took someone that had very limited hours and placed them in a OJT position which he said is very unusual. And she was a helicopter pilot with no fixed wing experience.

Get rid of the mandatory retirement age and base it on passing the medical instead. Letting all that experience leave the flight deck when you have fresher meat than ever coming in seems not a great idea.
