Default Body Scanners installed in L.A. -- the future is here

Los Angeles is first in U.S. to install subway body scanners

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles' subway will become the first mass transit system in the U.S. to install body scanners that screen passengers for weapons and explosives, officials said Tuesday.

This will definitely make things interesting for us CCW holders. What do you guys think?

You couldn't pay me to take mass transit in Los Angeles. So I guess it won't impact me much

LA has a subway system? Shows you how much time I spend there....

I'd like to see what happens if a person were to legally carry an unloaded firearm in a locked case.
I can see a person being detained for legally carrying a firearm.

I just saw the news today. It will be interesting. I guess they will find out you are armed even before you have a chance to notify the security.

I posted this is the OT thread:

Well this:
http://media.metro.net/about_us/ethi...t_customer.pdf

Refers you to note 40 which refers you to this:
https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/f...ctionNum=171.7

Which has this:
Quote:
(2) Paragraph (1) of subdivision (b) does not apply to or affect a person who is exempt from the prohibition against carrying a handgun pursuant to Section 25400 if the carrying of that handgun is in accordance with the terms and conditions of the exemption specified in Article 2 (commencing with Section 25450) of Chapter 2 of Division 5 of Title 4 of Part 6 or Sections 25615 to 25655, inclusive.
Which points to this:
https://codes.findlaw.com/ca/penal-c...ect-25655.html

Which points to this:
https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/f...ctionNum=26150.

Which is the CCW exemption I believe

But yeah I'd want a more definitive answer.

so what is to stop someone from lining their suitcase/bag with some lead or i'm guessing putting the gun/knife in a metal box?

all the scanner will see is a metal box which as far as i remember isn't illegal to carry/have on you.

L.A. has a subway system?
I honestly never knew.

Seems like an idea that hasn't really be thought through.

Yep. "Hey, let's put a subway in a seismically active zone. That's a GREAT idea!!"

Tokyo, San Francisco, and Mexico City all have subways and are in extremely seismically active areas. Can't say I can recall reading any reports of issues, even following significant seismic events.

But hey, it is something to bash LA over, so why not?

The subway system actually works very well for those who work in downtown. The stop at 6th and Figueroa has quite a few nice shops and restaurants down there. Plus it's very convenient compared to trying to find parking there.

We're looking specifically for weapons that have the ability to cause a mass-casualty event," Wiggins said. "We're looking for explosive vests, we're looking for assault rifles. We're not necessarily looking for smaller weapons that don't have the ability to inflict mass casualties."

Looks like it is terahertz scanning, cant go through water. Get a external water bottle holder/sling and wear it right over where your CCW is, CCW remains concealed..

If they can't see though it, they'll flag it.

The emergency response time for the Sheriff that patrols the METRO is anywhere for 15-25 minutes in comparison to city PD's of under 3 minutes.

You better have some kind of defensive weapon of you choose to ride. That's a long time to be on your own.

As I understand it, they are scanning crowds as they walk by, and making contact with people with suspected items. If you have a visually identifiable item (water bottle) , I highly doubt they are going to bother.

I did see that in the article and found it pretty difficult to believe they're not going to stop somebody if they clearly see a pistol.

They said the scanner sees body heat and they look for things blocking body heat.

I would think that at some point my CCW becomes near body temp.

Also from the demo I watched it looks like they are scanning people walking toward the scanner.

I'm thinking IWB 3:30 to 8:30 may not show.
