Yep, it's a fact: Concealed Weapons Permits We are currently NOT accepting any NEW applications for CCW permits. In an attempt to streamline the CCW process and cut down on the wait times for CCW appointments, the Fresno Sheriff’s Office will be unveiling a new automated system for the processing of CCW permits. This will allow applicants to fill out the applications online, make a payment with credit card(s) online, and schedule their own appointments. It will also allow applicants to monitor the progress of their permits without having to call in to the CCW Unit. While this system is being put into place, however, we have temporarily stopped accepting any NEW applications for CCW permits. Please check back at this website for any updates as to how to proceed. We anticipate having the new “link” established and ready to go by the end of September 2016. If you have any further questions, you may call the CCW Unit at (559) 600-8515. We thank you for your patience.

Any bump in the road is never fun, but it looks like the end game is that it will be a process to increase the speed of issuing the permits. Gotta love Sheriff Mims!

Should be good in the end. I was told the new system will allow them to process up to 50% more applications then the current system.

Yes, you need cash or a cashiers check to pay at the jail.

Quick question to anyone who has qualified/re-qualified recently. I've had to do a couple quals to carry a firearm as a guard: strong/support hand, kneeling, prone, all at different distances.
Is the CCW qual the same format or is it a simplified version? |

There are no set standards, it all depends on the instructor. Most are very basic though.

No problem.
So I used Fresno County's new system to add some guns to my permit. It was nice not having to go to the jail but it was a pain in the *** to fill everything out. The old modification form asked a lot less stuff. Filling it out online was like applying for the permit all over again and there is no getting past it. Hoping the will streamline that portion. I'll post more when the process is concluded.

Yep... I think I waited four to six months before I finally got the call from them.

So I used the new system to add some guns to my permit and let me tell you I give it an F-
I submitted it online on October 15, I believe. After a couple weeks I called them probably at least 20 times over 2 weeks and could never get a hold of anyone. I would leave messages sometimes but they would always call back when I was at work and then wouldn't answer when I called them back. Finally yesterday I got ahold of a lady who said she would try to fast track it which she did because I got a email saying I was approved within a half hour. So that part took a whole month. Then I go in today (side note: that older white lady is rude....she was rude to me last and this time) and two ladies couldn't figure the system out. They kept arguing with each other saying the other was wrong. Eventually they figure it out and I get to leave, right?....Wrong!....other lady says to the rude lady "did you check the ribbon?"....rude lady says "no, no one ever trained me"....big guy says "we are out, I told so-so to order more ribbon but he never did"....ladies go back and forth for awhile and big guy comes back and says "I called across the street and they have one"....other lady says "we are going to send someone across the street to get the ribbon, you can go sit in the hall because it will be awhile"..... I eventually got my permit but what a cluster ****. Rude lady says they have receive zero training on the new system. So basically if you have to go in expect to spend more time than necessary.

Renewal with new system
My experience with the new renewal system with the FCSO.
My wife and have our permits coming due so we completed our training on Wednesday night, 15 February. We scanned the required documentation and completed the online application on the afternoon of Friday, the 17th. Both approved today, Tuesday the 21st. "Please come pick up your new license" says the email. Wow, that's quick! A few points: They need your training certificate, drivers license or ID card, and TWO forms of proof of residency scanned and uploaded for the application. There's a section for you to articulate your reason for having the CCW, my wife did hers before I did and she stopped at this point to call and ask me what to put down. She was concerned that it would need to exactly match what she had before. I told her to just put "continued personal protection", and I did the same. Other than some wording here and there, mostly on the first page after you click renew where it goes into intital permit costs, the online process is very well done and super easy to do. I used the option for text message updates. I got the first one within minutes of clicking submit. The approval notification came at 10:00 his morning. Did I say it was fast?

What's everyone doing with the new Rice Paper Permits? You were able to fold the old one's but the new one's are HUGE ! This is for FCSO.
PS I know I'm good to go with the Credit Card style License inside Fresno County, but I'm unfortunately heading down to LA tomorrow |

The Credit card style license is good statewide as of 1 Jan 2017. That being said, when I stray out of my county I always take both with me. You can laminate the rice paper.

Went down to the jail today to pick up my permit as I was notified on Feb 10th that my CCW permit was approved and ready for pickup. Paper sign on front door read something like... "No CCWs, System is Down"
Bummer, i guess 2 more days to wait isn't going to hurt anything. I had been traveling for work the past 3 weeks. All in all, it wasn't that bad of a process. Basically 6 months from start to finish. August 1, 2016 - Called for 1st interview - given original date of 4/20/2017 August 5, 2016 - Called to see if I could get earlier 1st interview due to cancellations. They had an opening! New date of 8/12/2016 August 12, 2016 - 1st interview complete... September 9, 2016 - Scheduled class at The Range - called CCW unit for 2nd appt(fingerprinting) - Got a December 7th date September 14, 2016 - Completed class December 7, 2016 - 2nd interview/Walked over to jail to get fingerprints done February 10, 2017 - Notified via text and email that permit was approved. Made final payment March 3, 2017 - Pickup delayed due to system being down. Will try again on Monday. |

That's not too bad! Looks like the online system is helping.
