Default Custom mount for Walther SSP

I have a Walther SSP and need a Picatinny scope mount. The receiver is drilled and tapped from the factory.
I had a mount that came with it but it was a Weaver base. I tried milling out the recoil lug channel and turned the mount into what resembles a wrecked train bridge after a tornado.
I would try making one from a Picatinny blank but have no idea how to align the holes. Simple measuring never works. Is there a trick to doing so using an average floor standing drill press?
