Such a nice gun. Congratulations. Even a beat up older all metal 10/22 would be worth at least that, but this one looks like a safe queen.

Dangitt. I was going to say mine I picked up a few years ago was better, cause it's from the 2nd year of manufacture. But it doesn't have the cool American Liberty markings. Awesome find!

Nice find. I have my original from 1978 with receipt. Paid $100. My dad bought 2 at the time. The second one I have given to my nephew. He will receive the bulk of my collection when the day comes as I have no children to leave it to. As Hank Jr would say, "Family Tradition".

I'd only seen the rifle briefly once before during a range trip about a year ago. Didn't pay much attention to it, just figured it was a cool and very clean 10-22. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised! Thanks guys

Dat wood stock. Seriously, the wooden 10/22s these days look like crap.

Got one 3 years ago for 100$ has 117 series number dated 1978. Put archangel 556 stock on it and it's still running smooth.

I also bought in 1978 for $100. I put a scope, sling, hi-cap mags, case and sold it a year later for $95 and it only had one box through it. I really disliked it and never went back to 10-22.

Learned a lesson on buying old 10-22's. The mags have a sharp-edged steel bolt that protrudes on each side of the mag. Upon insertion into the gun the sharp mag-bolt edge digs a stair stepped gouge into the soft aluminum upper ruining the gun. Every time the mag is inserted it digs a little scrape out of the upper. After a few hundred times you have a nice deep gouge. The mag needs to have the sharp edge , on top only, rounded over. Do not do the bottom edge as it is not necessary and hold the mag in the gun.

The upper, with dros, transfer and tax, costs more than a new gun.

I have an "old" 10-22 sitting here thats junk.

Are you referring to the rotary magazine's center axis (forward) round head steel bolt with the (aft) recessed hex nut with the pin head protrusion? I sort of get what your posting but could you post a photo or two of what to look for and what to do to the mags to alleviate the problem?
Looking at my old 10/22 serial #105XXX I see very faint damage forward and none aft. If this condition happens only during the initial insertion of the magazine, instead of slamming the mag in, could you not just depress the ejector which allows the mag to drop in smoother and deeper before locking in place and load that way?
