Default My Sako M39

I'm finally getting around to posting pics of my 1943 Sako M39. The description said that it was unissued with 100% bluing, after seeing it, I'd have to agree. The bore is perfect and the numbers match, so either it's true or it was rebuilt well. Please let me know if you can tell from these small pictures. I have full sized ones if you really wanted to see them. Thanks!

Does anyone know what type of wood these stocks are made out of? I've never seen anything that stripes quite like that on a gun before.
Thanks!

It's arctic birch.

That's a really pretty example. Are the finger splices on the fore end square, angular or round?

Looking at the pristine blue, your M39 was likely refurbished somewhat postwar and put into storage until the Finns began clearing out their "obsolete" inventory about a decade ago. One way to tell if it has been reworked is if some of the rear sight parts are purplish. If it's in the white, it's likely never been reworked.

She's a beauty!

Thank you!
I'm not sure what you mean by "in the white" in regards to the rear sight. I'll take a look tonight.

If you EVER sell, let me know!

If you take the stock off (just using a flathead screwdriver) you can see the earlier arsenal markings.

gunsnammo is a great source of M39s... She is selling these from her personal collection and what a collection it is. She used to post awesome condition Mosins but now they're only listed on Gunbroker instead of her site...

Default ...beautiful!

That's a nice looking rifle! I love that wood.

I missed out on all the Finnish frenzy in the 90s when they were dirt cheap, but isn't that always how it is? My brother has some beautiful rifles that he got from the Century "3-fers". Plus too I had just bought a house and had very little money. What little I had to spare was devoted to getting stuff that was going to get banned. Now I have a little more money and have been looking to "flesh out" my Finn M39 collection.

I noticed in the antique section you only need DL on record to purchase. Could I buy one of these if I don't have a FFL or is there some CA law where this is a no-no?

Just fax her or email her a copy of your DL and you are good to go on antiques! No FFL required, even here in CA. Amazing, huh?

You can't have just one! It's very easy to get a collection going, so beware, there's always just "one more" to buy...

That's from the inventory of the former Wholesale Gun, the same people who used to put the fullsize ads inside the front cover of Shotgun News. Another name was Burns Brothers.

They got abused by the BATF and had to shut their doors. They had to wait one year before the guns were legally considered to be a personal collection.

Great looking stick, and I just LOVE the Finnish Mosins!!!!
