Sac valley has a public 300 yd range and a 1000 yd range you can use as a guest of one of the clubs that run it.

+1 on Sac Valley. They also have a steel silhouette range out to 550 yards.
Club membership is required and an short orientation class is required.
Well worth the trip out the Sac Valley. One of the best rangers in NorCal.

Sac 1 k range is very easy to use just go when there is a match.Matches and practices are held a few times a month. What is so hard about that?

Sacramento Valley Shooting Center has a 300 yard public rifle range. It's about a 30 minute drive from Cameron Park. There's also the Lincoln Rifle Clubs Dillman Range if you don't mind driving out to Lincoln, but they only have up to 200 yards for rifle.

You need a voting membership to use the members only ranges. Those are no longer easy to get since membership is now limited 1911 voting members. You also have to put in volunteer hours and get sponsored for a voting membership by a voting member. This change is the only thing I do not like about that range since they've basically alienated new shooters and have discouraged potential members from joining. I still go there though since they have the best range in the area and their $12 fee is very reasonable. Other ranges charge nearly twice as much.

Good luck find a spot where you can shoot past 25 yards. And 25 yards is usually pushing it.

I know anyone can show up to practice days and get to use the range. Haven't heard that about matches, I thought those were club events.
