I understand the temptation. I am actually money ahead with FS. Just hard to send more cash in for stays at a resort that could be years down the road.

And the "credits" just keep losing more actual value as prices go up over double of retail with stock and selection of choice of things to purchase in the Pro-shop going down.

Starting tomorrow the low is supposed to be in the 20's.
It must've been really cold for the 2DDHG students as they are not even allowed to wear concealment.

I'll be there early January and am planning on long underwear, etc. I wonder how my old skiing outfit would behave as concealment garb, LOL

I thought for the advanced classes they already have a rule you have to DG within the past 24 months? No matter what, I certainly don't want to be "that guy" that holds up the class. Practice, practice, practice...

Pssst, you wanna buy a future homesite at FS? Cheap.

Yeah... even with the latest upgrade... I'm still $ ahead too, so it's not much of a risk for me. But I agree, the credits are losing more value, since prices seem to be going up on items in the pro-shop. Fortunately, my plan is to just use most the credit to pay my background checks.

Yes he is there every year, gives a teaser speech about the future of front sight. My wife is great, she has taken almost 50 classes at fs.

I've heard the rumor if the 12/24 month deals, but never seen it. For the most part they hold a mini skills test at the very beginning to see if your safe and somewhat proficient, if your a real DG student, this will come easily, if your that guy that barely made the cut and are nervousness you may get bumped down to a 4 day or 2 day. My gripe is that the website tells to use myfrontsight to register and it's not there when it used to be. All checks still have to be done either electronic or by hand. It just sucks when you sign up for multiple classes and have that hiccup to deal with, Just inefficient.

I think I will hold at Diamond unless someone wants to send me a really cheap $50 Ambassador upgrade. Then I can collect credits for the next...act now, never to be repeated... Exec level upgrade. Diamond already gives me all the classes. I don't plan to go to Alaska to train (except maybe the polar bear skill builder...). And the lifetime onsite hotel use means nothing till there is a hotel.
Train now. Barter later.

Don't see where there is a benefit to upgrading to Executive. There really is nothing in the Pro Shop anymore and even at 40% discount, most items are way over priced. $600 in store credit for background checks - going take 12 years to break even. I'll keep my TBD's and Certificates - he's up to something trying to buy them all back. I hope everyone keeps trading them in, as the value will just go up later. The ones I have now are all free and clear and I still have store credit for background checks for years to come.

Well done. I know you wanted your DG but that is still good shooting. And, malfunction clearances can be tough when your hands are tired and cold.

The first time through, I put too much pressure on myself...took it too seriously and was really tense. Barely shot Grad.
The 2nd time through, I forced myself to breathe and tell myself that "this is some fun sh*t" and ended up 6 down.
During Instructor Development, I used the same technique and shot DG on all but one Skills Test.

Totally agree with this. With the extra clothes we were wearing and the cold I'd just decided to 'go for it"and not worry. shot the best I ever have in the test. The cold got into my hands a bit and I was late on one type 3 and one tac reload in the Malfs.

I think everyone should give the ID Course a try.
All the tests are on turners. Adds to the drama.
No late shots at all.

i did the four-day handgun last week and ended up using my down parka as a concealment garment on the last couple days, which i hadn't planned on. i brought it along because i was tent camping. the night it got down in the low 20s kinda sucked - not because i wasn't warm, but because there's no way my gloves were coming off, therefore no meaningful practice.

great experience, though. this was my first time, and i'll be back.

The wife is getting really excited about our soon to be planned trip to Front Sight! Glad she shares my passion! We're thinking about either late April or early May or in the fall sometime.

Been working on our malfunction drills at home with snap caps. That's the only meaningful practice we're going to get right now. She busted her ankle in November and can't put any weight on it. She's laid up for the next month at least. 2 more months until she's probably back to somewhat normal. Also, with it being crazy cold (yes, even in California!), I don't feel like heading out in this weather. It's supposed to get warmer this weekend, but we'll see if we get out.

Happy shooting and be safe!

I'll be heading out 12/19 for the 2 day Adv tac handgun and follow it with a 2 day shotgun skill builder. As long as it's not wet, it will be ok.

The weather is supposed to be back up into the mid 50's next week with no rain in the forecast.
This past week has been frigid. Highs in the 40's, lows in the 20's.

Can just anyone takes Instruction Development course? Or you have to be interesting in career in FS?

I thought about taking my dad for 4D later Dec/early Jan, but wonder if the weather would be too harsh for him? He is 80.

Old thread.
The starting pay has gone up...a bit.
Absolutely no sales pitches when you're in the ID Course.
Just lots of shooting and learning the lecture blocks.

Ok, 8 bucks an hour to be a FS instructor... 25 at its peak! No... Noooo... Better to hang a shingle and charge $20.00 /hr per student on the weekends at the local gun range IMO (look at all the people with no credentials that do). Heck, if you charged the NRA going rate of $12 /hr you'd still make way more. Maybe a good experience to take the course but think really hard on working for that kind of money when you could make 10 times more and driving 100 times less miles...

I have been to 8 courses in the past two years so I have seen various instructors. They are all pretty good. Even the line coaches who are just starting out do a good job of presenting. They keep the bar pretty high on who they hire it seems. Even if the pay is not that great, I'm sure it is a great experience, especially with the number of students that pass through the facility every week.
