Default 2 Questions Regarding a 9mm Carbine

What's the best 9mm carbine I can get for no more than $1200?

Could I get more for my money if I bought the parts and had someone assemble it for me? *I have someone that will do the assembly for nothing*

If you think the second option is best, I'd appreciate any opinions as to parts.

Thanks in advance.

My choice would be a Ruger PC-9 (not to be confused with the PCC) you will find them from time to time in the marketplace for btwn $600 -800.

Or you can buy one off of Gunbroker but by the time you get it you will have spent about $800.

Buy this, have shipped to your door. Take off flash hider. A lower, lower parts kit, fixed stock, fingrip, and buffer assembly will run about $200 or you can usually buy it assembled for about same price on the marketplace. You'll have a 9mm ar for under $600.

Buy the Ruger PCC - it has an old fashioned rifle stock (no pistol grip) so you don’t have to dick with fixed magazines, weird fin grips and so on. Plenty of reviews out there and on YouTube.

I routinely use my Ruger PC Carbine at 3 gun match and several fellow competitors do the same. Uses Glock 9mm magazines, super reliable, feeds 115-147 grainers well from weak hand-loads to hot +P loads without any issues.

It is optic ready with pica-tinny rails on top. And it outshoots CZ Scorpion every time! We all have match records to prove it!

The gun sells anywhere from 499 to 519. It is a bargain IMO.

I'll 2nd that. The 3 Gun match I attend is technically 4 Gun at times as the match director will make us switch to a pistol caliber carbine just for practice sake.

It really weed out the toys from "tools" when one has to reload on the move and deal with sand, or weather elements while transitioning from station to station. Ruger PC carbine with Monte Carlo stock has been a solid performer for many of us. I know as fact, guys that invested 4 figures on a CZ Scorpio or AR-9s can't make this claim.

Also, factory trigger is very good at 4.5 Lbs, and you can adjust the length of pull with spacers; it comes from factory at 12.75 but you can extend it up to 14" with spacers provided.

I love my MPX but in CA youd have to run it featureless.

If you have money to burn and want the lightest 9mm carbine, you could buy parts from CMMG and make a CA legal equivalent to their Guard or Banshee. Nutnfancy likes it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHqDJV1ELNk

But like the others said the Ruger PC Carbine is a solid gun, is much cheaper, and is already CA legal. I've shot the Ruger PC Carbine. I thought it was very heavy for a 9mm rifle. The PC Carbine is almost as heavy as a 12 gauge shotgun, which is what I bought instead. Carbine has way less recoil though.

Do you want a traditional or AR pattern?
You can buy the ruger pc or build an ar for about the same price.
I have both.

I've always been more of a pistol guy, so I'm not really sure of the pros/cons of each. I'm at the beginning stages of my research at this point.

Spend the extra money and get one of these (featureless) when they're back in stock OP.

how so?
honest question because i've been waffling between the two. no competition for me.

what's the difference between a pcc and a pc9 anyway? i see that mentioned here and there but i only see the 'pc carbine' on the ruger site.

For the price (under $600 bucks) and how good the Ruger PCC is it’s probably the best bang for the buck vs any other pistol caliber rifles. Its accurate, reliable, and Ca legal outa the box so no goofy work around products added to it. And who doesn’t love using readily availible glock mags? Or the other optional mag insert it comes with for ruger pistol mags.

With the money saved vs what youre willing to spend you can drop some money on accessories to set it up nicer, mags, ammo.

I really do like mine a lot. I bring it with me every time I travel into Ca to shoot. I don’t notice the weight when out shooting.

You can get a CZ scorpion carbine in the price range which is also really good. But it’s gunna have goofy grip wrap and locked stock. But it’s also a really awesome 9mm carbine, but gunna be a bit more pricey.

I know Turner's has the new juggernaut tactical 9mm carbine for about 1k. Don't have any experience with it tho.

And, no one mentions this, or complains about it, like the PC CARBINE, but it is almost exactly the same weight (8oz lighter)

PC Carbine -Weight 6.8 lb.

Scorpion EVO3 S1 faux suppressor - Weight 7 lb.

1) It's a compliance device, not a work around. Complying with the law is not a work around. It may seem like semantics but it's not.

2) The PP is for ARs only.

Grip wrap sucks, for sure. The stock trigger is worse. The bad mojo between the stock trigger, stock ambi selector, and the grip wrap on the Scorpion was just bad news. Probably the worst shooting experience I've ever had.

Add about $300 for a trigger and polish job and a Mini-AK ambi selector and I love shooting the Scorp.

Personally I think the PCC is Fugly.

While I admit break down is cool, it's also gonna be a bit less accurate. Since I'm not a Glock Fanboy I don't care that it will use Glock Mags.

I was able to have my Smith mags modified to fit the PC-9

I respectfully disagree, on the fugly.
