Question Range question

I purchased a Maverick 12 ga just for home defense.

Is there a range that allows firing a few rounds of buckshot?

I’m not going to use this shotgun for hunting and have no need to break any clays. I am just interested in getting a feel for what this shotgun is like with the pistol grip I installed.

Thanks.

I've been looking for the same thing. The range in Concord will let you shoot slugs at targets but not shot.

I believe that Livermore will. I think they have a separate steel plate area on the side of the riffle/pistol range where they let people shoot shot. Give them a call and ask.
Trap Range: (925) 449-8780
Rifle/Pistol Range: (925) 449-3616

I believe Los Altos has a shotgun "pattern board." I am also pretty certain that Coyote Valley Sporting Clays also has one.

What I don't know is whether that will solve your quest. I'll leave that as homework for you ;-).

LARG only allows up to #4 shot.

They also have a tin can range where you can shoot a shotgun. You need cans or 1gal. jugs filled with water.

Default Ranges that allow buck shot

Thanks. I should have mentioned that I normally go shooting at Reeds in San Jose and also out at Livermore. Both great ranges where I normally shoot pistol.

I just want to fire off maybe half a dozen rounds of buck just to get a feel for the recoil and control. I hope it's the only time I would ever fire this gun.

You can shoot any kind of shot you like at the Richmond Rod and Gun Club on the 25 yd pistol range. Just make sure you tell them when you check in so you can get a special shotgun target.

I would like to strongly encourage you to practice with your home defense gun!

What about Chabot? Slugs only on the public lines. You can shoot trap but that's not what he's interested in.

Yeah, they used to have a patterning station but then it became an air rifle only station and then it just sort of became this extra lane that's really close. I've seen people put their kids at it while they shoot at 20 yards. I think they just got tired of replacing the wires...
