Default Cape Town is 90 days away from running out of water

"After three years of unprecedented drought, the South African city of Cape Town has less than 90 days worth of water in its reservoirs, putting it on track to be the first major city in the world to run out of water."

Well, I'm certain that the populace will handle this crisis with grace and dignity. Just like any other city in a crisis.

I'm sure at this very moment many USA and CA do-gooder politicians are meeting and plotting on how to import these poor unfortunate wretches to expand the dem-o-rat
voter base.

You would think a few De-Sal plants would have been built.. Glad to see that country being ran so much better than in the past.

Of course, they have to toss in the obligatory "climate change" talk:

Climate change researchers predict more frequent dry years and fewer wet years to come. More likely, they say, Capetonians are just getting a preview of the new normal.

It’s actually pretty scary to think about on that scale.

Spent some time in Joburg and Pt Elizabeth a couple months ago and all the radio and TV talk was about conserving water.

Within 20 years from now South Africa will be a chithole just like the rest of Africa. It was just a matter of time, and not all that much time really.

20 years is far too generous. Several years ago I met a guy who made custom wheels there. It was insane the stuff they had to do to employ their quota of native peoples. Provide them a house - have an employee shop and keep the cupboards full of food - provide transportation to work. Even this wouldn't stop them from just deciding one morning to wake up and return to their village for a few day visit. He tried to get a little more production by providing air tools to break off the casting flash from the wheels. There were 2 reasons they wouldn't use them first and foremost is they were possessed with evil spirits and second the increased noise drowned out their singing.

Will be very interesting to watch. People will have come to 200 water stations in the city to get their 25 liter (6.6 gallon) daily allowance. I foresee problems... Possibly a preview of California in the not-so-distant future. A bit of info on the failed politics that has led to the crisis in this article. Sounds very familiar... http://beta.latimes.com/world/africa...119-story.html

"T.A." That's Africa.

If they do what they've done, they'll get more of what they've gotten.

I spent time in RSA in the 80s. Sad to see what it is now. I was also in Zimbabwe then. To see what has happened there now is incredibly sad for all races.

That was a very, very long time ago. A significant percentage of Calguns members weren't even born yet or were still wearing diapers.

And even the white neighborhoods weren't that safe as there was a virtual civil war going on. Lots of car bombings.

Don't even get me started about what was going on in Rhodesia in the 80s.

Rhodesia ceased to exist in 1980. It became Zimbabwe, which for the first 5 years or so had real promise. The wheels came off in the late 80s and it has been all downhill ever since.

I don't know where you got your information about car bombings in SA in the 80s but it isn't true.

Overpopulation is a key reason for the issue.

I recently drove thru numerous areas of East Bay kalistan, and I was like wow!
Rows upon rows of newly constructed homes and growing.
We recently "came out" of a drought and with the constant "build for the greedy empire" mentality, kalistan will either be heavily invested in desal plants or become the next wasteland as well.

Wouldn't you rather have a slow "high speed" rail from Bakersfield to Chowchilla?

You'll get desal plants off the coast of California when pigs fly.

Considering the length of time it took to get approval and finally get the Carlsbad Poseidon Desal plant up an running, I don't ever foresee Southern CA's water situation improving.

Not long term anyway.

Cape Town has a better chance at one in comparison

I'm no mathamatician, but my calculator says there are 86,400 seconds in one day. 200 water stations for 4 million people= 20,000 people per station. You telling me they are going to fill 6.6 gallon jugs per person in 4.3 seconds, non stop around the clock? Good luck with that.
