What are the current proof of residency documentation requirements?

How about time/duration of residence in county?

Moving back to GV soon.

Thx

Residency = Driver's License
Time = current residency as of application
it is about 5 months from application to interview and another month for the livescan.
let me know if you need any more information

Just do it NCSO are a bit slow, so you'll want to get your application in asap, but they are great to deal with and broadly comply with the law.

Don't be, it's pretty open and straightforward. Start by filling out the standard DOJ application, submitting it and then waiting a few months for an interview date. Happy to answer questions here or by PM if you like.

Just starting the process for CCW in Nevada County for my wife and myself.
I have a few questions:

1) What are people's experience with the good cause statement in Nevada County?

2) All our handguns are registered to me. Can I also list them on my wife's application and she carry one?

3) Is there caliber limits?

4) How long is it taking now?

5) Recommendation for best place to take the class? I live just outside Grass Valley.

Thanks

Does Navada County place extra restrictions on the license?
How many guns will they approve?

The only printed restriction on the permit is the "invalid if licensee has been consuming alcohol or drugs" statement on the front. They recently also mailed out a separate signed declaration that you are not a pot user or grower. Other than that, nothing special.

You get three guns allowed, confirmed by my instructor (not recently). Not sure if anyone has been able to push that any further by listing more on an extra sheet as it suggests on the DOJ form.

As far as the guns being registered to you. Any handgun that is registered to you or your wife can be listed on both of your permits.

Default Nevada County - Question re. Section 7 in the CCW application

I'm filling out the CCW permit app, and it says that Sections 6, 7, and 8 must be completed in the presence of an official of the licensing agency. Section 6 is simply a signature, as is Section 8. But Section 7 is more involved; the instructions say to: "Review Section 7 and be prepared to answer these questions orally. Do not write anything in Section 7 unless specifically directed to do so by the licensing agency." Section 7 is the section where you'd write the answers the questions about "illegal controlled substances" and "Details of Reason for Applicant Desiring a CCW license." From everyone I have spoken with about the application, people have filled out this section before turning it in.

From what I'm reading in this forum, the interview process is a group interview where we won't be asked specifically about drugs or our reasons for wanting a CCW permit.

When I go into the Sheriff's office to turn in my application, will they ask me at that time to fill out Section 7?

What am I missing?

Thank you for replying... Yea, I checked their website. Nothing. I was hoping someone could alleviate my curiosity tonight My middle name is "Impatient." If no one knows here knows for sure, I am planning on calling them tomorrow. I bet you're right - I'll have to fill it out before I turn it in.

Merged.

Any news on Nevada County? Planning on filing for LTC within 3 months. Moved here from Sacramento in 2011 and live outside the Nevada City limits.

Great site and good people. Thanks for all the info people!

I don't think there's any news really; Sheriff Royal continues to follow the law, his CCW issuance practices are absolutely straightforward and his office folks are a pleasure to deal with. I'd apply now as it takes a few months to get it all done

Default Nevada County Application Process Going Online

I just received this email from a CCW instructor, citing to the NV County Sheriff's website - also confirmed on the website itself...

"Important Notice: Beginning May 1, 2017, CCW applications, renewals and modifications will be facilitated using an online program called Permitium. In order to adjust for this change we will not be taking any applications, renewals or modifications during the month of April. The online program will be posted on our webpage beginning May 1st."

So, if you have a renewal coming up, might want to do it sooner rather than later...

Does anyone have an update for Nevada County with the new Sheriff? I heard a 3rd hand account from someone at the range that someone was denied a CCW application due to being "not justified".

Default Unfortunate Change in Policy

I just spoke with the sheriffs office clerk involved with ccw permits this morning. She told me "self defense is not just cause for a ccw permit anymore". When I asked about why did policy change because it wasn't this way a few years ago: "The new sheriff reviewed policy and made adjustments" which is exactly what Shannan Moon said she would NOT do when running for election.

I have a few questions:
What is the California policy for CCW and how is Nevada County now out of compliance?
What is the court case that changed California policy so self defense is enough justification for CCW permit approval?

Thanks everyone!

CA law gives to all the sheriffs and issuing police chiefs to set their own standards as to acceptable Good Cause and Good Moral Character.

Go thru my posts, incl the one I made last night, at: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1482924 Once you've read that, you'll be better informed to ask the sheriff's office about the new requirements.

The question now is how restrictive is her GC & GMC requirements. There's nothing re. GC or GMC on her CCW webpage or FAQs document:
https://www.mynevadacounty.com/184/C...CW-License-to-

https://www.mynevadacounty.com/Docum...sked-Questions

No such beast (yet!). Within a few years, NYSRPA at SCOTUS, Young, Nichols and Flanagan at CA9 might bring a serious slap down. But not yet....

Does anyone have any updated information on acceptable good cause statements for Nevada County? A friend of mine moved up there from Sacramento County, and is contemplating submitting an application.

Any information would be appreciated.

I just looked over the Nevada County CCW informational pdf, and found this:

"CCW Permits pursuant to this policy have to be concealable weapons as described by the Califomia Penal Code. Weapons approved shall be the product of a recognized manufacturer, free from mechanical and other flaws within tolerances determined by the manufacturer’s specifications and in good working order. Weapons must also appear on the “Not Unsafe Gun” list produced by the California Department of Justice as a result of the Safe Gun Act of 2001"

Does this mean that my off roster handguns aren't eligible for CCW in Nevada County?

You should probably call and ask how things would be for a new application, or better still don't bother the sheriff and ask your CCW trainer if you can find one who knows what he is talking about.

Both my permitted guns are off-roster, but they have been on there for years. I renewed with them both earlier this year. I can tell you that they now need to be listed in AFS as semi-auto which, if they were purchased under SSE, they might not be.

Thanks. They haven't been a problem in Butte County, but Butte's pretty much a shall issue county.

I just did a renewal class about three weeks ago and there was no mention of permitted guns being on or off roster. Us usual, no modifications allowed such as trigger jobs. But there is a new restriction listed that no laser sights are allowed except on those guns that came equipped with them from the manufacturer.
It was literally only two days from submitting to approval. Pleasantly surprised!!!

I'm thinking about applying for my CCW and have been a Nevada County resident for the majority of the past 20 years. Does anyone know what Sherrif Moons' GMC definition is?

I submitted a copy of my resume listing multiple federal licenses and security clearances I've had. The subject never came up during my interview.

Three months start to finish for new application. Would have been faster but the Sheriff's department could not schedule an interview because officers were tied up with several high profile disappearances. Which was fine with me.

My interactions with the Sheriff's department were absolutely first class, and Gary Weber's training was excellent.

Did they change the interview process to individual or is it still with a group of folks?
