Gee. I guess I better call and bug them again tomorrow. Not sure what the deal is here. I called the same # that they called me on. Is there a better number to call?

More than likely you are on a NICS delay, CC will not be charged until you pass

Just picked up my 1911...I hate to say that I'm disappointed.

Heavy park, weak markings...just "blah". I certainly didn't feel any "connection" to this pistol, like I have with other, cool guns I've acquired over the years.

Might be selling this one...

ETA: In case anyone is wondering: It has a seven digit serial, I blocked out the last two digits.

Surprised at the pitting on the front of the slide if that is what it is. Doesn't look bad otherwise.

Why? pitting is in all the grade descriptions. Doesn't look like pitting, looks like it was dropped

Agreed, maybe it saw combat.

Surprised they marked that as a service grade. Have you tried calling CMP about the condition of the pistol? I'll upload a picture of my service grade when I break it out of jail in a few days.

Iím going to e-mail the pics and see what they say. Who knows, maybe Iíll get that all-matching Singer after all, haha!!

I knew theyíd be a little rough, but I was thinking it wouldíve been more like this one. My Uncle picked it up back in the day:

Maybe try to get a little money back but don't sell. (CMP seriously do not approve of flipping them by the way)

Who the hell knows, could have been used by a tunnel rat in Vietnam.

American history is seeped into the metal of these firearms.

Looks like a nice Service Grade to me. I'd be happy to have that one, I'm still waiting for them to get to 15,000 and give me a call.

They will tell you to send it back and they will refund your money. Send it back, let someone else who really wants a 1911 enjoy it
Just because someone elses Service Grade looked nicer doesn't mean anything, not every single 1911 within the grade will be the same. These are old surplus firearms not brand new shiny pistols you see at your local FFL
There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Does anyone read grade descriptions anymore!!! . Pistol may exhibit minor pitting and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition. Pistols may contain commercial parts.

joefrank... I recommend you field strip it, lube it, and oil the the slide and frame. Take it to the range and put a box of ammo through it. A romance may be kindled.

If yours was shipped as dry as mine -- you may be surprised how a little oil (I use Ballistol) brings it to life.

I get what youíre saying...Iíve been in the C&R game a long time, and Iím a huge fan of the CMP and itís mission. Bought more than few rifles from them, and attended the Advanced Maintenance Class in Anniston a few years ago. I love the M1 that I assembled there. And the Custom Shop did the full National Match treatment for me. Great bunch of folks.

The pics, as they say, donít do this 1911 justice. Every gun Iíve ever bought from the CMP always meets or exceeds my modest expectations. This one doesnít.

Email has been sent. Weíll see what they say.

If I find time this weekend, I just might do that. That Colt ^ from 1918 that I have is an absolute joy to shoot. Maybe my RR/Colt will be the same, haha!!

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!! And good luck to those still waiting!!

Just because it doesn't meet your expectations doesn't mean it doesn't meet grade description. You never expect to get what others send pictures of

Agreed!! And this one doesnít meet grade description, hence the disappointment. First time ever from the CMP.

That putting could be a blood stain. I just can't get the picture such that I can see that area better.

If it is pitting, it is in the grade description for service grades, does no one read them anymore?

It's your property, sell it if you don't want it. You will probably be able to be reimbursed for the time/effort it took to jump through the hoops.

It does meet the grade criteria. I'd jump on it for $1050! If you're disappointed with that one, I don't think you could be made happy on what they are releasing.

Definitely send it back for a refund. Gets me one closer to my number.

It looks borderline field grade to me. Crown is dinged, pitting and weird finish issue with the slide. What does the bore look like? I’d maybe send them pics and ask that they have the grade reviewed by another set of eyes. Nothing to lose by asking nicely...

They are very upfront. You get what you get and your option is to return for a refund and miss out on getting one and that's it. That fits the Service criteria 100%.

If it were mine, I would keep it. Second option would be to sell it for more than you paid.

That's an option if he wants to be out all the time and effort he spent. If he wants to be reimbursed simply sell it for what the free market will pay.

Yeah, send it back is what is best for me as a RNG 15,000er. I think we all know that would sell at $1250 in the marketplace in about 15 seconds.

I'm jealous of all you 1911 guys picking up these nice pistols. Congrats.

You will get one. There are plenty more. "By the end of the war Remington Rand had produced over 875,000 pistols, almost twice as many as Colt and Ithaca combined."

I already have a couple nice USGI 1911s, but I'm not super confident that those of us in the "2nd shipment group" will get one. I'd love to get a gun straight from the stocks of the Army, that would be top notch. There are only a few months left in FY19 and CMP isn't letting anybody ask about when the next 8-10,000 pistols are coming. There is no provision for the CMP to get 1911s in FY20 as far as I know.

I very much hope to be wrong, but the silence on when CMP is getting more 1911s isn't good.

Unfortunately its only if the Army decides to let more go to CMP will there be another release.

When a business is trying to move 100,000 units of something a good tactic is to tell consumers we have 10,000 units and have no idea when or if we will get more. This creates hysteria and makes the consumers jump in line to buy. Another great tactic is to tell the consumers that they can't sell the product on the open market. Shady business practices but it helps keep profit up per unit and demand high.

I sold my 1911A1 Colt for $3800 a few years back. A couple weeks ago on gunboards I missed a nice complete officers rig go for $2500. Keeping my eye out for an original finish A1.

I can't see the Army wanting to keep the pistols. What logical reason is there to hold onto them? They won't ever reissue the 1911. Re-implementing the training and maintenance would be a huge waste of time. If they get rid of all their 1911s they can use that as an excuse to get more money for new pistols.

The only difference between Service and Field grade is 'minor rust':

Quote:
Service Grade $1050. Pistol may exhibit minor pitting and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition. Pistols may contain commercial parts.

Field Grade $950. Pistol may exhibit minor rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition. Pistols may contain commercial parts.

If any of this is minor rust, it seems to better fit the description for field grade.

I see no pitting and doubt that is rust. There is no way that is not a service grade and CMP isn't open to debate with the 1911 release. You get what you get. The end.

Congrats, jyc. Great-looking 1911. Looks very much like my RR/RR.
