Hey Dedeye,
Kudos to you for taking the leap into Competition. GSSF is a great way to get started in the shooting sports since you're not moving so it gives you a chance to practice those fundamentals. Have you started shooting bowling pins for practice yet? |

You can participate in either of the days. I was told that last year there were around 150 entries. So the event is extended to two days. You can shoot on one of the days or the other or both.
Oh, and I do remember that the event is a 'lost brass' event, so you can't pick up your brass after you shoot. Why? Because there are 150 people and I wouldn't want to double the time that everyone spends at the stages. I volunteered to RO one of the stages. Remember, although ammo is just as valuable as money, cash can be concealed easier. P.S. Here's the link to the club that's hosting it http://ssashooter.net/ |

Oh, and you can have an entry for each model GLOCK you want to shoot.
You have a 22, 17, 19, and 34? Well, thats four entries you have right there. See how easy it is for the +150 entries? |

ie, one in civilian, one in competition, one in subcompact, etc, at least that's how it used to be. Also, guns that fit into more than one division could be used in all of them (a 26 could be used in civilian, subcompact and unlimited, though maybe not the best choice in all three ) |

It makes no sense to start out at a big 2 day match. That's like jumping into auto racing by going right into formula one... You gotta walk with a gun before you can run with a gun.

Actually, the GSSF match doesn't ask that you be there two days. You only need to be present one of the days. The two days are there incase there isn't enough time to run all the people through on one day and to allow for more flexibility in people's schedules.
And the GSSF matches are kinda the walking before the running. IIRC, there's no drawing from a holster (you start at the ready position) and there's no walking from position to position involved in the stages. |

Boring, but very interesting none-the-less. Might as well just shoot steel challenge with a rimfire. At least you get to move on a couple stages.

Get a holster, mags, mag holders and some ammo. Show up at local matches. Ask the match director to put you with someone that will teach you the ropes. I have helped dozens of new shooters. I actually have a complete setup including guns that I loan out to get people started.

1) a chance to win a brand new glock (raffle allocation, so, fair chance for everyone, and i think it is 1 glock for every 25people or so.. and other prizes too, basically the odd of winning something is 1 in 4.) 2) a glock certified armor to check over your gun, he will replace any worn parts for you for free; actually, they are known to upgrade you glocks with newer parts (eg. if you have a gen 1 and gen 2 glock, they will put in the new chamber indicator, they will upgrade some springs and parts etc...) 3) get to meet other glock shooters I dun think that's too boring.....

I don't own any glocks that would be legal and competetive in the stock classes. Nor do I own a full blown open gun as I would expect to see in unlimited. Looks like I'm "stuck in the middle". I would have to put some stock type parts back into my 17 to run in Civilian...

Hope you do well. I was reading that the placing is kinda strange in GSSF matches. They arrange the entries in descending order of their score and then chop them up into three or four equal sized divisions and then hand out prizes according to those divisions.
