S/42G Bolt Mismatch

Gambled a little and bid on this at an auction. Final price was $500 with taxes, shipping, and fees, so I'm pretty happy with what I ended up with. Ended up with a S/42G bolt mismatch, but it's going to require a lot of TLC and work. M-block with a mix of K167 and WaA211 inspections. I think the bolt is from an Imperial Kar98a. Haven't been able to get the bands off the wood yet. Noticed the rear sight spring was E/280 marked, the sight slider button, and front sight post are unnumbered.

Interesting fixer upper. It probably made it back stateside in great condition but suffered poor storage since then. A worthy project to restore a fine old warhorse. I am generally not a fan of restorations, but in this case it would be warranted.

This one is actually cleaning up quite nicely. I did some work to it over the weekend using kroil, bronze wool, and elbow grease. Got most, if not all, of the active rust leaving what I perceive to be patina. I got the wood off and it's pretty pristine below the wood line. I even managed to score a rare Krupp barrel.



I was considering investing in better brushes and letting it sit longer in kroil. I pretty much applied the kroil to the metal and let it sit overnight.

Nice work. Always worth saving those uncommon manufacturer early war guns.
