Thanks Harley66. Yep, I plan on disclosing and it was all taken care of. I just hope they are not going to try to find any little reason to deny me.
Thanks again!

That's so lame. I need to have my address changed anyway, but I doubt they'll let me change a gun at the same time.

I just had my phone interview today, the officer was cool and the conversation was pleasant. He told me about 30 days so hopefully that's a good sign!

Lots of people canceling their appointments it seems. They moved mine up, had an opening on the 5th so I grabbed it. Hoping everything goes right and they accept my proof of residency.

To find a cancel, you either have to be Lucky OR cruise several times a day - keep in mind, everyone else may be looking for that opening and the 'Green' time will not last long.

Proof should be pretty straight forward / utilities' bill, phone bill / DL / Post Office change of address, lease / rent agreement / real estate dealings.

I got an earlier appointment and went today. They auto-canceled my June 24, 2015 slot at 8am if someone wants to grab it. It shows available as of now. Edit: appointment is taken now.

FYI, anyone who is scheduled for an appointment after January 2016, there is an appointment open now, one on the 01/12/2016 and I believe another on 01/26/2016

Update: There are 13 open slots on the calendar between the dates of 06/15/2015 and 06/17/2015. If anyone wants an earlier appointment, I'd suggest jumping on those slots.

They accepted my PG&E and MID bills. I don't know a single person that has been denied so I am taking the class this weekend since it is good for 6 months anyway. Does anyone remember the phone number they call from or what time they call? I am away from my phone most of the day and would hate to be denied because of a missed call!

They leave a voicemail, so no worries. The number I got the call from was a cell phone, but the message had her desk number as a callback.

I had my initial appt on Feb. 4th, got approved, took the class, got my phone call to drop off my class completion certificate. I dropped that off on April 29th. I'm still waiting for them to type up the card. Is that normal? Over a month after dropping off my completion certificate?

I would call at this point. Two guys at my office dropped off their training certs at the same time (one in line after the other), and one of them didn't get a call for a week after the other guy. So he called and asked what the status was - they said they were waiting for his proof of training. (Somehow they misplaced it). He just dropped off another copy and they turned it around really fast (I don't recall how long, but less than a month, more like a couple of weeks).

I had my renewal appointment on March 27th. I received my call from Rebecca (the lady that handles the LTC's) on Monday, June 1st. She said she had been scheduled to be out for a week or two but it became two months instead. She is working on getting things caught up now but she said she was way behind.

appt. 2/24/15
phone interview 5/27/15
picked up permit on 6/15/15
fairly confident I would get it, so I took the class after the first interview.

Not sure if anyone has received emails stating that there is an early appointment time that has opened up, but at the end of the email it says you need to have taken the ccw safety course prior to the appointment. Is this required now to complete before being approved?

Are they still not allowing guns to be added or changed on permit until renewal?

Thought I’d share my CCW experience/timing in Stanislaus County:

March 2014: made appointment via Sherriff’s website. Let the waiting begin

Feb 4, 2015: Appointment day. Made small talk with the nice ladies while my paperwork was reviewed (made sure to leave the signatures blank so I could sign in front of them) and they took my photo and prints. Felt more like a session at the DMV than anything involving firearms.

March 28-29: took my class. Went with Defend to Survive. Really good class, definitely gave me a few things to think about in the lecture session.

April 16: the phone finally rings. Got the call at 7:30 am while I was sitting on the train heading to work. I never check my phone while I’m on the train so they left a message. I called back about 9:00. The conversation couldn’t have been more than 90 seconds.
Them: “Your application looks pretty straightforward. Has any of the information changed?”
Me: “No sir”
Them: “Have you ever been arrested?”
Me: “No sir”
Them: “All right then. I’ll get this to Records and you should be hearing from them within 30 days.”
Me: “Thank you very much.”

I’m pretty glad I’ve had a boring life that left me with nothing to disclose on the application. There was one moving violation in the last 5 years (rolled a stop sign) and one “conviction.” I forgot about a fix it ticket and it turned into a very expensive failure to appear “conviction.” I use quotes because they sent me a letter, I paid a big fat fine, and it was over. Never saw a court or a judge but it showed up on my printout from the DMV so I described it in detail on my application.
My reason was simply “Protection of self and family.” The great big space on the form made it really tempting to add more but now that I’ve gone through the process I’m glad I didn’t. It’s a straightforward statement that doesn’t invite any questions.

April 17: I get a message that the Sheriff has approved my application and I can bring my training certificate in anytime.

April 21: My lovely wife drops the training certificate off for me.

June 12: Finally get the call that my CCW is ready to be picked up.

So that’s 15 months to exercise a constitutional right. Better than a lot of places in this messed up state but still so very frustrating.

One minor annoyance; my license includes the restriction “ Not valid during the course and scope of employment with --------” From a practical standpoint it’s no big deal as my wife made it very clear that I won’t be carrying at work. My employer has a no weapons policy and the risk of job loss just isn’t worth it to her. From a philosophical standpoint it’s bothersome though; I can carry at the grocery store but when I go to the office I apparently lose the capacity for rational thought.

I would call them to verify, but no, they do not require the class before you apply. The laws says they must accept your application and give you an answer before you have to take the class.

Thank you very much for the detailed update on the current timeline. It is helpful to those who are anxiously awaiting that interview phone call. So, don't bug them for at least two months after dropping off the application - and probably more like 3 months.

I believe the major hold up is from the Cal DOJ. I have done 3 records requests (criminal background, PFEC, and a list of registered firearms they have for me) and each request took over 3 months for them to respond for something that was probably returned by a computer from a database within seconds.

Regarding work carry, my suggestion is to park on public property (such as the road) and have a bolted down safe with drawer such as what Bulldog sells. Before work you lock it up, and after work you put it back in your holster. I just keep my holster on all day. Only issue is re-tucking the shirt, but I am pretty good at it now.
