@CSkyhawk72

Have you been granted a ccw?
Curiously following this as my interaction was very different.
Life is again got me behind the 8ball with little time to work on this issue.
So I just noticed this new info.

Edit 02-05
Thanks for the pm'd info...

So there's a magic dollar amount that you have to carry that grants a permit?

I'm in the City of Napa, and when time allows, will probably start working on the application process.

Hello Everyone,

There is a good chance I will be moving to Napa County from San Mateo in June. How is the application process in Napa County? I think my "good cause" is not a strong one. Anyone willing to share their experience would be greatly appreciated. I will apologize upfront for my ignorance on this subject.

Thank you!

If you have the choice and you want a CCW, move just inside the border of Solano County....

New City of Napa police chief starting in July. Robert Plummer from Las Vegas PD. Curious how he'll be in issuing CCW's for city residents.

I'm just going to take a stab in the dark here but I recall LVPD was dead set against the NV legislature unifying CCW laws statewide and removing Clark County and LV as "special" CCW areas with their own set of rules. Additionally, LVPD was dead set against the removal of their gun registration scheme as well.

He was a commander in LV, not the chief. Not sure how much say a commander might have in such issues, nor if he agrees with the policies he upheld while employed by LV.

Would be very interested to see how this turns out as well. Ive put off applying d/t uncertainty over whether Id be wasting my time.

Anybody know if the city application still requires 3 letters of reference? Suppose I could just pick up an app to find out...

If Plummer has any "meet & greet"/Q&A events, best to be ready to explain to him why readily issuing CCWs is a good public policy: 42 out of 50 states and 45 out of 58 CA county sheriffs think it is!

Didn't think about it till after the fact, but I'm sure the new chief would have been at the national night out last night. I took the kids, but didn't think to look for him, or I might have asked.

I encourage anyone applying with Napa Co SO to go through my thread re. applying w/CoCoCoSO. Why? Although we currently have Napa Co as light green on the CA CCW GC map, it is really on the border with being yellow. IOW, you can't slack on the process, you really have to have your act and application together when applying. If you don't take it seriously and do due diligence, you may get denied....

If you do apply, be sure to let the rest of us know in this Napa thread how it went. Or, if you prefer not to be so public about it, just PM me so that we can use your information to keep the map accurate and to help other applicants (w/o saying where we got the info from).

Here's a link to the CoCoCoSO thread: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1482924

Ok, so I live in the county OF napa propper...
Edit

My last phone call to touch base before turning in my app.(under the idea I do not want to waste your time) I spoke to Jean Donaldson...

His answer was basically if I did not carry large sums of cash I was not a candidate.

Now with the light green map(was yellow then I think) and reading thru cococ's thread I wonder if things are looking better for us?
Now that Newsome is fixing to drop the gavel on us hard, do I\we just flood the s.o. With apps?

If the denial does not stop us from turning in another app at a later date, I would turn one in before Gavin takes office.

By this, I assume you're saying that you're a resident of Napa Co, but not of the City of Napa. Correct?

Who is Jean Donaldson? Year and month of this call?

That makes it sound like they're yellow at best, dark red at worst. Either way, not light green. But we have to weight what you say compared to what others have said....

You never know until you try. Find out the upfront costs to get a GC determination and then decide if you can afford to waste that on a failed attempt for a CCW. That's the first thing to do.

Napa and SLO counties both are currently light green but could easily be yellow. As we say right on the map, the colors can easily be off by one color, but not by two. If you can muster up a solid GC, more than just hiking or camping in wilderness or to protect your guns during transit to/from 3-gun matches, I'd say go for it! If you think you have a GC that would pass in CoCoCo, go for it. If not, try only if you can literally waste the time and money involved. What you learn will help you on your next attempt. As I explained in my CoCoCo CCW advice thread, a denial for lack of GC will not hurt you on future apps, when you explain it to them.

If you do apply, be sure to either post about your experience AFTER you've been issued or denied, or at least PM me with that info so as to help others in Napa Co (FWIW I don't live there).

Sir.
I live in unincorporated napa county outside the city limit a mile or so.

Under Sheriff Jean Donaldson is the one doing interviews. The call was made end of 10\2017.

Edit 12\11\18
The last conversation with under sheriff Donaldson looks to be 7\2018

I was surprised, seeing a glint of hope posted here in this thread.

I will make a phone call to see what the cost will be.

Newsome certainly will not make it any easier!

clb, did you go over the first 3 posts by me in:
https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/....php?t=1482924

If not, you'll find valuable insights that could help you get a Napa Co SO CCW.

Be sure to let us know re. the costs of applying and getting a GC determination.

Yes sir I did, and everything I can find on the subject.
That's a portion of why I keep coming back to the issue.
My app is setting on the desk in my office, waiting on good cause...
Nothing I have read is concrete, exept, we are more yellow than green
Thanks for the effort.

FWIW it looks like they've overhauled their website. I challenge anyone to find info re. CCWs in less than 5 minutes. I found it but only because I was familiar with where they hide it, having searched for it before.

https://www.countyofnapa.org/sheriff/

Could not find a download.
What a difference a year makes!

Not only does Napa SO now have info re. CCWs on their website:
https://www.countyofnapa.org/2511/Co...Weapons-Permit

But a link is right in the Services pulldown menu on every SO webpage, making it super easy to find!

If you think that's great, there's even more. Hold on to your hats, they've also switched to an online application process!
https://napaca.permitium.com/ccw/start

It only costs $93, LiveScan fee included, to find out if you can get a CCW.

If what we've heard about their GC requirement is true, the only complaints we have about Napa Co SO is that they don't accept SD = GC and that they do NOT issue to residents of the City of Napa (which has >1/2 of the population of Napa Co and who's Chief has a restrict GC policy for Napa PD).

I encourage anyone who applies with Napa SO to read the advice I wrote for CoCoCo SO applicants at: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1482924

If you do apply and do get issued, I'd also encourage you to write a letter to the sheriff thanking him.

Again, what are you talking about: the City of Napa (Napa PD) or Napa County (Napa Co. SO)? Which one/s did you apply to? When?

What was your GC like? What "proof"/evidence supporting your GC did you provide?

What was the result (CCW issued or denied)?

If denied, why? Did you appeal? If appealed, result?

I've lived in the county for over 3 decades and the overall mood of the populace has shifted from a hunting, rural, gun toting, self reliant base to one of liberal oppression and give me what they have approach. A general new view is, if a person isn't a liberal, they are the enemy. Striking up a conversation with a stranger is often like maybe you got a horrible disease only they can see.

It is not the county that I loved and enjoyed in the 1970's - 2005 or there about.

Any request for CCW needs to be very personal. Talk with one of the CCW instructors listed on the newly configured county web page. Start local, like the top two listed and add the american canyon instructor. Think out of the box. Think maybe, what are the places you go that are dangerous and why? Good Luck!
