I took the class today with Steve. You were right Chris, he was a really cool guy. Good class, it was just my style. I definitely plan to take more classes with him to sharpen my skills.

Definitely the guy to take your CCW class from! Very relaxed and fun along with the best price and services around!

Plus it's nice to be able to go back and qualify for free if you get a new gun and want it in your permit.

Glad you enjoyed it and took my suggestion.

Anyone familiar with the city of Fresno's ccw process? My lady resides in the city and wants to get one. Not sure if she could just hop into county's process either. We do plan on moving outside city limits in near future as well.

If you plan to move out of the city then I would go through the county. That way you don't have to go through the whole process again. To my knowledge both issue for SD but the city has a faster turn around.

I only had to shoot 50 rounds, period. I have three guns on my permit.

Just shoot!!! That's it

Seriously ... He just want's to know that you can shoot it, know how to use it and can hit the huge 24x18 is all.
I just shot a mag a piece for a couple minutes then I was done. VERY easy and relaxed, you don't have to run drills like 2 mags in 45 seconds at 15 yards, 2 mags 7 yards in 30 seconds, 2 mags at 3 yards in 15 seconds type of stuff .... He just needs to know you can use the gun, shoot a mag in the silhouettes chest and your done. Saves you even more money on Ammo cause other local ranges etc. want 50 rounds Per gun to qualify. I would have had to shoot 150 rounds of ammo to get my 3 guns on the permit ... I only shot 28 rounds and I was done.
Though I did shoot a few more mags cause he spent time after helping with shooting and some hands on lessons as well.

If you want a relaxed laid back CCW class Steve is the guy to go too ... you get SO much more for your money and it's SO easy with him as opposed to a local range.

Plus it's only $50 and a 50 minutes scenic drive ... he has a nice piece of land in the foothills for training ... and he just got steel targets and a dueling tree as well which should be even more to shoot while up there.

You won't regret it ...and he normally has a class often on Saturdays ... Hit him up and he will take care of you.

Yep ... Mine was only 28 total with my 3 guns ... 10 from m&p9, 10 from PPQ and 8 from the Shield ... Done!

He just wants to see you operate the firearms and be able to shoot and that's about it.

1st appointment went smooth. 630 am, reviewed the application, didn't bat an eye when reading my good cause, sign here, date there...

Stated that he would see the Dyer in about 2 weeks and I should receive my letter shortly after. Also stated that DOJ is taking about 1-2 months.

Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since my first appointment. Anybody know whether FPD take kindly to follow up calls? Don't want to be the guy who finds out the hard way.

Okay well my CCW permit arrived and I'm all done!!!

Here is the time frame I encountered throughout this process (Fresno County Sheriff) .......

* Called for interview: March 13th
* First interview: April 27th
* Approved Permit letter in the mail: May 7th
* Called for second interview: May 19th (my mistake though, call As Soon as you get your approval letter, I waited till after CCW class was complete, stupid me, so I lost a week on that)
* Second interview / Livescan: June 3rd
* Permits arrived in the mail - August 12th

Total of 5 months exactly from first call to new permit in the mail.

Long damn time but oh well it's done ... I'll be back again in 2 years to renew.

Quick follow up, I was told that meetings with the Chief are once a month. Unfortunately my timing was off and I applied days after the monthly meeting. Next meeting is Monday, and he gave me a vote of confidence that I would receive my letter shortly there after. LOOKING GOOD!

I'm official.

It took a month and a half my first interview.
A little over a week to get my approval letter.
About 3 weeks for the second interview.
Just about 8 weeks for the permit to arrive.

Fresno City, July 28th completed app and 1st interview. Called and followed up last week, stated he would see the Chief on the 31st to get sign off on all approvals and call me in to complete. Monday August 31 two schools on lock down for a credible threat and who do I see on TV? Chief Dyer. I'm betting the appointment with Chief Dyer was cancelled. FML lol! I followed up today but got voice mail. Hoping I'm wrong and I don't have to wait another month.

Another reason to get your CCW through the county.

First interview seems to be much faster ... but everything after that is a toss up from what I have heard.

Nice! Congrats

I hate how they word their "approval" letter.

Makes you feel like you still may not get it even after you pay the crazy high charges.

But I am sure you are 99.9% good to go

So what are you gonna be carrying? You found a good holster yet?

M&P Shield in 9. Have a nice kydex iwb that has held up pretty well. Take it out to the BLM areas and put it through its paces. I forget the details but it's a local maker who has his stuff in some local shops. I got mine at Herb Bauer of all places. Couldn't find a holster I liked at the other shops arounds town.

Anybody recently receive a permit from Fresno County? I am hearing that the California DOJ is backlogged converting felonies to misdemeanors and no permits have made it through in the past month.

Hi all, I'm a mom of 3 small children (5, 3 & 1) I want to get my CCW... needing some advice on GC. Do I need to elaborate on personal protection for myself and my family? My husband works long hours, and when I need to run errands I am usually by myself with my 3 children. My husbands is a contractor, and HE sometimes deals with large sums of money, and since he is licensced our home address is public record under his license #.
**also I got a traffic violation ticket a few years ago, did traffic school, so I believe it's not on my driving record... but do I still disclose that on my app.... and I can't remember the citation #, is that a big deal, do I need to get the info from dmv?

LL559, FCSO is very pro-CCW. With just what you have stated in your post you should have no issues. I would recommend that you and your husband go through the process together, that's what my wife and I did. They aren't looking for anything special for your statement, what you said here will work. They are very friendly to deal with, and the traffic citation will not be a problem.

No need to elaborate on the reason why ... Just state the facts like you stated here and that will work perfect!
I would also suggest you both do it together if you can ... I am sure he would like to protect himself as well and with him dealing money etc. that would be his reason as well.

If the time frame you received the citation falls under the date range they have asked for then yes put it in there ... in the end they will probably not care but it is 100% always best to honest on your application ... I had a citation in the time frame they required you state it as well so I put it down ... this will not hinder your application in ANY way at all ... I had a couple misdemeanor arrest charges even in my past 15+ years ago and that was no issue and I was still approved.
Contact the department that gave you the citation and they I am sure can provide you with the info you need to put on your app for that citation.

I went through the Fresno County Sheriffs office and the process was simple, easy and straightforward.
I heard the DOJ is VERY behind on processing these right now so the sooner you apply and get this rolling the better ... you will already be looking at like 6 months or so before you get you permit ... so the sooner the better.

Let me know if you have any further questions about the application, process, CCW class, etc. etc.
More then happy to help!

What are the current start-to-finish times for PD and SO?

Current??? .... not really sure as I have heard the DOJ is taking up to about 3 plus months now to get these pushed though.

I would say to expect about 6 months from start to finish.

But here was my time frame earlier this year ..........

* Called for interview: March 13th
* First interview: April 27th
* Approved Permit letter in the mail: May 7th
* Called for second interview: May 19th (my mistake though, call As Soon as you get your approval letter, I waited till after CCW class was complete, stupid me, so I lost a week on that)

Hello, I am looking through all these post. And I am looking for some help. My wife and myself are applying for our ccw . we are not jewelers or carry large amounts of money nor have we been threatened. My question is, I am a looking for a "Just Cause" statement that will be satisfactory for the city of Fresno. We are pretty basic and boring lives. I do have a concern for my safety and my wife and children. I do work out of town alot, and I am in construction. I do carry tools. I need help with simple statement for a Just Cause... Any suggestions?

You just stated what your reason should be on your application ... simple and easy!

You have concern these days for your safety adn the safety of your family. You work out of town a lot and in construction which takes you away from your home and family on the road etc. (this applies for both you and your wife ... your gone and want something to protect yourself and with her you are gone and she needs to feel more safe and secure and able to protect herself while your not there). You carry items that could tempting and make you more susceptible to a robbery and want to be able to protect yourself while on the road and away from home.
And of course for your wife the statement of you being on the road away from home a lot and her being alone with the children and needing to protect herself when you are not there. If you have a dog she may walk the dog with the kids and needs protection .... Etc. Etc. Etc.

You don;t have to get crazy into detail but a nice simple statement on why you would like to carry works great.
The fact you are out of town a lot is really enough just cause for your to be approved for both you being on the road to protect yourself and your belongings along with your wife being left by herself often with the kids will be perfect!

I went through the Sheriffs office and would recommend that route over city but only because it was such and easy process and Mims is very pro CC ... plus if you ever move say to Clovis or a surrounding city in Fresno County you are still covered (with a Fresno City CCW I believe you have now reapply due you no longer living in Fresno).

Just use what you just said and calrify a little better for the both of you and you guys will Good To Go!!!!

-Chris

Thanks Chris, you have helped me tremendously. I feel my intentions are just for carrying, but I don't want to sound too afraid or aggressive. The last thing I want to do is come across wrong. Thanks again

My only option was to go through the SO since I live out in the County, they were great to deal with and I would recommend using them as well. It's great to have to decide which one to use, many folks in CA don't have a decent option.

Not sure how the PD is, but I agree that your reasoning is just fine for the SO. My wife and I went to the interview together, as our paperwork was being reviewed the investigator handed my wife back her application, she had forgotten to fill out the "cause" statement! Not sure how that happened, as we had gone over it a couple of times. I had printed a couple extras of that page so we each could draft it out, and I think she may have tossed the one she completed. Anyway she looks at the guy and says "what should I put down?"

He just says "Well, I can't tell you what to write down, it's your statement. You guys live in the country, you have to drive alone to the City, sometimes late at night, your husband is in the Military and is often gone, etc. Something like that will work, but I can't tell you what to write down..."

It was pretty funny, but it shows that the SO is basically good with personal protection for the "Just Cause."

Thanks, I called Fresno PD today. Very helpful. Actually I called him and got his voicemail message. I didn't leave a message but he still called me back. I asked a few questions and he was very helpful. He told me I called at a good time. He said he meets with Jerry Dyer only once a month and their meeting was next Tuesday and If I had time he would interview me before Tuesday to make sure my application was seen. I work out of town and I told him I cannot meet this week. He said, " well looks like you and your wife have your just cause". He said he would meet with me Monday morning at 6:15 am so my work week doesn't get interrupted.

My wife and Myself Had our interview this morning at 6:15 am. The Officer said he is meeting with Chief Dyer tomorrow and we should receive our letters in the mail no later than next Wednesday. He looked over our good cause statements and said "so you fear for your safety and life. Right?" We said yes. And he just glanced at my wifes good cause statement. Pretty easy. He asked if we had any questions. So I asked how many applications do they process per month. He said about 40 but they want more. He encouraged me to tell my friends to apply. He mentioned that they drive by your home and talk to your neighbors too.

I would say to expect about 6 months from start to finish.

But here was my time frame earlier this year ..........

* Called for interview: March 13th
* First interview: April 27th
* Approved Permit letter in the mail: May 7th
* Called for second interview: May 19th (my mistake though, call As Soon as you get your approval letter, I waited till after CCW class was complete, stupid me, so I lost a week on that)
* Second interview / Livescan: June 3rd
* Permits arrived in the mail - August 12th

Total of 5 months exactly from first call to new permit in the mail.
So 5 months from start to finish, was this with Fresno county sheriffs dept?

Edit: I just read ur other post that said it was, I hope it is faster now.

Yep

I wouldn't think it would be faster ... last I heard CCW's through the DOJ are taking longer now.

If I had to guess and tell someone how long it would take from start to finish it would be 6 months no doubt right now.
