Default CZ 712 Semi-Auto Shotgun Specs

I just brought my CZ 712 home yesterday and broke it down and cleaned it. Very easy to disassemble as the only tool you'll need is a punch to take the whole thing apart.

Few people were interested in specs of the shotgun. Thought I'd provide that for us.

Length of Pull: 14 3/4"
Drop at Comb: 1 1/2"
Overall Length (w/o Barrel): 34 7/8"

I got to test fire the shotgun a few days during my 10-day waiting period because the FFL I transferred to allows that. The shotgun had a few FTF's the first time I took it out because I didn't clean it. The bolt was getting stuck because of the gummy grease they put in the gun.

Cleaned her up and it is running super smooth. Bolt doesn't get caught up and cycles the shells I put through it flawlessly. I am going to try light loads through it next time I am at the range to see if it cycles.

The shotgun I purchased came with a nice 26" chrome lined, vent ribbed, barrel. It accepts all Benelli chokes and came with all 5 chokes from Cylinder to Full along with removal tool.

Only thing I am disappointed with in the purchase is the butt stock came with some really ugly wood.

There is a vertical wood end cut at the buttstock. I'd be more bummed about it, but I know I am going to have to shorten the stock a little bit to fit me better, so most likely that part will be cut off. Aside from all that, it is a bummer that the shotgun isn't really a looker out of the box.

The shotgun performs wonderfully and really look forward to get everything worked out with her. I will definitely try to keep the thread updated with new photos as I take them.

Can you fit 912 stocks on the 712? Nicer wood but may cost more than just buying a 912

Unfortunately no. Because the 912 design, the recoil spring is located in the buttstock where for the 712, it is located in the forearm.

I purchased the 712 specifically for this so it would be easier to shorten the buttstock without having to mess with the spring that would be in the 912.

I contacted CZ-USA about the wood and see if they will do anything about it. Either it way it probably won't matter as I will be shortening it atleast 2 to 3 inches before installation of a new buttpad.

Just had a quick range session today to test out the 1 ounce loads I made up. They were made with Cheddite Multi-Hulls, Cheddite 209A primer, PT1205 wad, 22 grains of International Clay, in a 1 ounce load.

Since the range I normally shoot at only allows slugs, I turned the shot into hot glue slugs to see if the CZ 712 will cycle.

All the shells shot great with a significant reduction in perceived recoil. They shot a lot more accurately than the factory loads and definitely make the shotgun much more of a pleasure to shoot. After a thorough cleaning after bringing the shotgun home, it performs much better oiled up and cleaned out.

Can't wait to throw more shells through it.

I think it's a very nice looking "smokepole". Congratulations on a fine choice. I like semi-auto shotguns, and the modern ones are good firearms although there are probably some cheapo exceptions.

My Browning Silver Hunter had a few failures to eject at first. The bolt group on it is something of a challenge to take apart, so I really didn't clean the action much except for what I could reach with a Q-tip. The dirty parts of the gas system are incredibly easy to access and clean, though, which is nice.

After a couple of 25 round skeet sessions with failures to eject going on, I brought it home and gave the innards of the receiver a good dose of Break Free and hand cycled it several times. Had another 25 round skeet session two days ago and she cycled flawlessly (with factory loads).

I found the same experience myself Go Navy. With all the gunk, it certainly even made cycling the bolt by hand a chore.

Those semi-auto shotguns definitely require a bit more care and maintenance to run without a hitch. I am fairly certain my Mossberg pump can easily get way more grimy without issues, but tis the benefits of the pump.

I do like the shotgun a lot though and today was my first time trying handloaded shotshells, so the reduced recoil was a welcomed experience.

Got to get some range time in today with the CZ 712. I though I test out my Cheddite Hot Glue slug loads today and shot them out at about 20 yards.

It appears with my shotgun mount, I am shooting a little low and sometimes to the left.

First two I shot were Cheddite Hulls, Cheddite Primer, 24 grains of International Clay, PT1205 wad, in a 1 ounce hot glue mix with #8 shot bonded slugs.

The last was a new shell I was trying which was the Remington Pheasant Loads at 1 1/4 ounce of #7.5. I opened it up and remade the shell with the hot glue. A lot more kick than my cheddite loads, and feel on par with the Federal Game Shok 1 1/4 #7.5 loads.

Either way, I'll be able to get it out for some clay action soon enough!

Well I had this shotgun out for 2 days of clay shooting. First day out was during the Calgun Skeet Class. Performed pretty well till about later in the afternoon where the bolt needed a little assistance getting shut. By that time, I was about 50 shells through my shotgun.

I found out when returning home and breaking down the gun, it is important to clean the area where there is a black ring, which is where the crimp comes apart and when gunk gets built up there, it makes the bolt difficult to close.

After a through cleaning, it isn't an issue though.

I taken it out a second time to Prado and put 75 shells through the CZ 712 flawlessly. It ran without a hitch, cycled every shell, and didn't ever need assistance closing.

Aside from that, I have successfully run over 200 hot glue slugs through it and it and turned out pretty decent in accuracy as well.

Will keep you updated as I update the shotgun.
