Wouldn't it have been better for all concerned to have posted an armed watch at the specific vehicle/trailer location? This is like a jewelry heist, and appropriate security measures might have been taken...

I doubt they can sell most of them in the U.S. without getting caught. High grade shotgun has a fairly small market. This list had already been published around clay target shooting circle.

Some people speculate these shotguns might be for going out of the country.

These aren't getting sold. The barrels are getting hacksawed to 6" long and the stocks cut off at the wrist and traded for drugs. Sad.

The thieves knew what they were after, they bypassed many less expensive guns and went after the top of the line.
I doubt they are going to the streets to be hacked up.

How do we know that? I find it hard to believe there is an international gang of high end firearms thiefs following dealers around to jack the cargo when they stop for dinner. Crackheads breaking into random trailers in parking lots on on the street to take whatever they can find in them to pawn/sell is an every an everyday event. If they actually left lower priced guns in the trailer and only took the fancy stuff then ya, they had some knolage of what they were stealing.

Check all of the outgoing cargo containers at the bottom of the piles of rice, flour our whatever. Bye, bye.
I don’t think it would be that hard, kind of depends where you are. In the Central Valley I rarely see one. At the clubs in the Bay Area Krieghoff, kolar and Perazzi make up a large percentage of the guns I see. More than a third.

Cartels love high end arms, lieutenants and higher ups they get some of their arms personalized or buy unique and high end makes and models.

Ithaca had much the same experience back in the early '70's. We were set up for a dealer buying show at a hotel near S.F. Airport... I think at the time it was the Knights Inn?? Anyway the conference room was set up with commercial displays with products that were just brought in from a similar show in New York. Ithaca, SKB, Perazzi, 10X Clothing, etc. Friday was a normal day and we locked up the room and went to dinner. Hard to beat Charley Brown's back in the day... We got back to the motel kinda late and didn't think to check the room and hit the sack. There was only one key to the room at the front desk anyway. Rose bright eye'd and bushy tailed, went downstairs for an early breakfast. I grabbed the key from the desk, open the door to the room, and everything was gone. Empty displays. Basically all the guns and sleeping bags... I went out and called my partner. He didn't believe me... LOL... We called the police and they were there in a nano-sec. I sat down and called every gun store within a hundred miles notifying them of what happened. One of the kickers was one of the guns was the proto-type of the first single barrel Perazzi. To shorten the story a bit. The thieves were caught about two weeks later. The maintenance man did it... Nice guy and very helpful when setting up. I later asked him why, and he said he just couldn't help himself. The guns were kept as evidence, but I did talk the property room officer out of the Perazzi, and hand carried it back to Ithaca. When I check my luggage for the flight back the agent wasn't going to let me take it on board... I usually stowed them in the front locker and picked them up when deboarding. So I said that's fine, but I'd like to insure it. He asked for how much and I said 100 grand. The gun rode up with the cabin with the pilot... LOL. Sorry for getting carried away with the story.... I've got lots of them.... :-)

One more thought. Because the guns all came from the NY show all the firing pins were shortened, a NY requirement. So they were all non-ops. I was waiting for someone to use a sawed off in a robbery and tried to use it... :-)

Great story. Thank you for sharing it.

As for the short firing pins, would you think it'll be easier and less expensive to take them out like all the guns at the SHOT show?

The juice bags that stole these undoubtedly have no clue as to the value of what they are. They will probably be sawed off and used in crimes.
