Default M1903A3 Remington (Picture Heavy)

I received earlier today from the CMP my First M1903A3. I did a little research while I disassembled and cleaned. This is what I have come up with.

M1903A3 Remington:

Serial Number: 4,015,406
Barrel: RA, 9 - 43 (I believe to be correct)
All other parts are marked "R" Remington. Front / rear sight, trigger, sear, trigger guard, stock bands, etc.
(I got lazy instead of listing all parts)
I was surprised that its almost all matching.
Also appears to have the original finish.

The only parts that I believe are not Remington is the stock (Can't make out the markings, I think it may say "RIA" in a box but other angles looks like a 14 in a box. haha. Also the stock has two pins in it. I believe this is normal?

The butt plate is not marked and neither is the rear sling swivel.

*EDIT* Butt Plate is Remington.

The CMP hang tag says:

Muzzle Reading: 1.5
Throat Reading: 2
Rife Grade: Good Bore
(on the back it says "S Stock")

The rifling in the barrel looks amazing and the rifle wasn't that dirty. I'm very surprised on the condition of the rifle and it just looks amazing and I thought they were going to be sold out but I got lucky.

Well here are some pictures and I know that is what you guys have been waiting for:

Very nice! The RIA mark indicates that at least the stock went through a repair and rebuild program at Rock Island Arsenal. Sometimes stocks get switched around so the stock markings don't always track with the rest of the rifle. If all of the parts on the rifle are parkerized then it has had an arsenal rework. Many were originally blued such as the barrel bands and swivels, rear sight assembly, trigger guard, striker assembly, butt plate, magazine follower, Nice, nice rifle with minimal barrel wear.

Double Post,

but know that I looked at other Remington stock pictures, it know looks like it might be an FJA in a box and I can barely make out the inside of the ordinance wheel. Can't see the RA at all though. I'm starting to think this is a Remington stock and the bands looked blued to me.

I couldn't take a great picture but what do you guys think?

They are wonderful rifles and have a feel that modern rifles don't have and that feel is what makes the milsurps and old rifles so pleasant to shoot.

They sold around 500 the accumulated and I got my order in soon of enough. I was not expecting a rifle as nice as this one. Any other 03's / 03A3's they get will be going to auction.

And yes I prefer to shoot milsurps over modern rifles.

I got to shoot one of these last week and boy was is awesome. The sights are incredible. The owner who's a friend of mine bought the rifle in the 1950s mail-order through the CMP for $18.00!!! When he got it he just stowed it away and never shot it until last week and it was 100% new. It's all original and it had 100% bluing and not a single knick on the wood. It was so pristine, really a treasure. I couldn't believe he had this thing for about 60 years and had never shot it and let me actually shoot a few rounds through it. First bolt action I ever shot in my life.

Good deal, I got my M1903 from them in '06 and it was $400, but I like yours better and a lot of gun prices have gone up much more in that time span.

Looks like a RIA type 7 stock from the last of the 1903's? Perhaps could also be a type 10...that would make more sense as it has the correct receiver ring cut in the upper handguard. Some reason they thought the pins would be better than the recoil bolts...go figure. Beautiful rifle...and maybe all original Is the bolt and all the bolt parts blued? If so, I think you have an original. Couldn't make out the ordnance wheel and other markings. Look to be in the right place and if I imagine a little I can see the FJA in a box and an perhaps an RA marking lower and off to the left somewhat under the ordnance wheel.
