Default New calgunner in riverside looking for ranges and reloading advice

Hey guy my name is Robert
I just bought a used savage 111 in 25-.06 and am excited to join your ranks. Ive shot guns before (.308, 30-.06 and .22) but im interested in improving my shooting abilities. I want to find a range in my area (riverside) that goes out to about 200 yards so that i can improve my acuracy with the hope of possibly joining in the next hunting season. So if you have any ranges that you prefer near riverside( or within 40 minutes) that have longer distances i would love to hear about them.
Also i had a question about reloading, are there any stores/ ranges that have reloading equipment that they will allow you to use? I was just thinking that it would be nice to be able to reload, so that i can save some money. ( i have actualy reloaded 30 -.06 cartridges before quite a while ago)
Thanks for your time
-Robert

Welcome! I'm in the San Diego area, so I can't really help you, but you'll have better luck with your second question in the Ammo and Reloading forum.

I will definitly try to make it out to the range nights, however most of them seem to focus on handguns, and i dont happen to own one .
NoNOS67, im actualy from San Diego, but i go to school in riverside, ill probably be home from around the 21st-3rd, so maybe ill see you at the ranges. (I can pick up my gun on the 19th)

Robert, if you do not own a handgun come on by anyway. You can rent guns at the range, most of us will let you fire off a few rounds no problem, and just buy ammo if you want to shoot a bit more.

Winnre, Sounds good, cant wait to meet you guys. I have no problem buying ammo, or helping clean if someone lets me borrow a gun for a little while. Ill try to make it out to the jan 4th meetup, and if i cant make it to that one ill try for the next one.

Lytle Creek might be your best bet for long range it is off the 15 fwy at Sierra at the top of the mountian. Welcome to Calguns!

Bikr is right, lytle creek is the best option for that kind of distance. There isn't another range that provides that range that I am aware of.

Lytle Creek is leased out by the forest service. There is Bee Canyon in Hemet but I do not know the distances available as I have never been there. I have been out to Berdoo Canyon in Indio. Its BLM land. I have been there once and it is a nice place to shoot. It can get really hot in the summer and its about 2 hours from Riverside. Other then that it should have the distance you are looking for. A truck or 4 wheel drive is not required unless you want to go further back into the canyon away from where most people are shooting.

As was said Lytle Creek is FS leased land by the Lytle Creek Firing Line. Be advised do not bring any 10+ mags as not only will you be asked to leave, you will be cited if the le ranger is there. It doesn't matter if you legally possessed them prior to the 2000 ban. The exception would have to be if you had the receipt showing you bought them prior and that would only get you out of a ticket. You still wouldn't be permitted to have them there.

I would also check to ascertain the fire hazard as they may close the 200 and 300 yard ranges if it is extreme. Since the wind warning is red flag, that might be the case. Call first.

Re Bee Cyn, the distances of the different canyons are posted in this post by Eat Dirt, our resident Bee Canyon expert and organizer of cleanups there:
