Default Bonetti Road Closed To Shooting?

I heard from someone who heard from someone that the Bonetti Rd sites had "no shooting" signs posted as of yesterday. Has anyone else been up that way lately?

Yes. Temporarily closed to target shooting due to extreme fire danger. Order is until October 9th. It might be extended though if we don't get rain.

It is also posted on the ElDo National Forest page. About half way down.

Due to extremely dry vegetation and very high fire danger, Eldorado National Forest announced that additional fire restrictions will be in effect into October.

Forest Supervisor Laurence Crabtree said recreational target shooting will be banned through Oct. 9, and longer if necessary.

It is all of Eldorado National Forest that is temporary closed to target shooting. Also of note is all SPI land in the forest is closed to the public as well for any use due to fire danger

Things are changing...

I foresee lots of my lifestyle becoming stories of the past in the semi-near future.

I wanted to give a quick update. Bonnetti Road is still closed as scheduled (15SEP).

Forest service staff member Jennifer Chapman can be contacted at tel: (530) 957-9660 to see if the restriction will be extended or get a current update.

Her number is already posted prominently on the forest service website as the contact person so I am not disclosing any private info. I wanted to have it here for Calguns members’ convenience.

Also, this would be a really good time to go and do some cleanup at the area. I think I’ll head out there tomorrow to pick up garbage. I encourage all those available to do the same.

October 9th is the earliest it might reopen for target shooting. But count on that getting extended if we don't get any rain between now and then.

Forest Service just extended the target shooting ban for 30 additional days. (or until conditions change)

we got .66 inches of rain the last two days.
got to say I fully disagree with them on this move.

SPI did open their lands back up to the public yesterday

about 10 of us spent Saturday morning cleaning many of the shooting areas on Bonetti. Was nice and cool with damp ground so no dust this time.
Got over 2000# of trash from 10 of the shooting areas. Place looks better than it has in a long while.

As for the target shooting restrictions.
they currently are still in effect for another 30 days but was also told that they may be lifted in a few days.
check the Forest Service website for any updates

This is stupid. Forest fires are a myth created by Big Fire to get us to keep buying fireman poles to slide on.

I feel the ban is unwarranted right now. temps are way lower than last month, humidity is up. There is no reason for this to be in effect any longer.

I think someone, or some group is pushing for this. Going to try and get a meeting with the Forest Supervisor and find out what the real reason is.

Still closed. Current order runs until 11-9-18. I expect it will be extended. They are not going to open it back up until we get a couple days of rain. The writing is on the wall.

Folks are going to start ignoring the order. They will just drive in a little deeper. Now the remote locations will get trashed.

Anyway I'll be up their tomorrow riding my dirt bike. I'll let you know if I see anything special.

Yep, that was what I was thinking. Peeps especially on weekends will drive deeper off road and now trash pristine areas which may never get cleaned up.

More crap: https://www.facebook.com/pg/eldoradonf/posts/?ref=notif

TARGET SHOOTING RESTRICTIONS HAVE BEEN EXTENDED FOR ANOTHER 30 DAYS OR UNTIL FIRE SEASON IS OVER.
Fire restrictions on the Eldorado National Forest are STILL in effect due to high fire danger. Critical fire weather conditions from extremely low humidity and gusty winds are forecasted for this week continuing to dry forest vegetation further which increases fire danger. Current fire restrictions include a ban on recreational target shooting which is being extended for the second time for another 30 days or until conditions change.

I no longer view it as legitimate.

They now know that by the time it rains it it will be late enough in the year for snow. Effectively ending target shooting for many of the none 4x4 crowd with a pen stroke.

I was up last weekend scouting for some new camping spots. Plenty of folks are still shooting. You can hear it echoing through the hills all day. They are just much deeper. Just like I assumed would happen.

It's not even a drought year.

That sucks. I just read the update. They are really making it hard for lawful shooting sports.

It sucks for us, yeah, but after everything that is going on up north and down south -- totally understand why they're extending it. We can be patient.
