Question Is this revolver a former CDC issue?

Found this super clean used S&W Model 64 with the upgraded Pachmayr grips. I shot this model at the CDCR academy. There are no institution markings like Iíve seen on other models.

So do you think this is a former CDC/CDCR issued revolver?

I don’t see any holster wear, and they were always marked from what I’ve seen.

Then again, it looks like a 64-3, and it looks like the trigger and hammer aren’t original. My 64-3’s trigger and hammer (it’s all original) look much different.

I thought CDCR used the model 10 before going to the Glock 22, is that a Hillary hole I see in it(lock)Might be too new for a CDCR gun.

It looks like it has an unusual grip angle - almost like it has been cut like a Fuzzy Farrant gun. Have you had the grips off?

I am not an expert on these, but you are correct. They had the model 10s that were blued and then the 64. Again, I dont know a lot, sorry. I only shot the Model 64.

I'd ask to inspect it and ideally see under the grips. That grip does look unusual. It does not look like any sort of trade in.

It's hard to tell from the picture but that grip looks a lot like the grip that is on the current production model 64 & 67 on Smith's web site.

Could be an LE contract spec gun of sorts, but I highly doubt it was a police trade in. I’ve seen the exact model with the same grips for sale at the LA police academy gun shop.

I got my 64 from L C Action . It is not marked CDCR but was traided in from California Health Care Facility in Stockton. It has the 2 piece barrel and it is a dash 8 sn CJX.... CHCF opened in 2013 and was the last to purchase .38’s before the conversion to glock model 22’s.

You didn't mention what year you were in the CDCR academy. The gun in the pic is no older than 2002. That was the 1st year, the internal key lock system was introduced with the model 64-7. So if you attended the academy pre 2002, you shot a different model 64 "pre lock" gun.

Plus....every CDCR issued revolver I ever saw, had CDC /CDCR markings. Same spot, on the frame, left side under the cylinder window.

Glocks 23's. 22's started showing up in 2008 with CDCR. OCS, EOU, CRT, ISU, TU.

IMHO I don't think it was a issued CDCR weapon.

Good Luck.

If you read theses emails from LCAction, they clearly show that many CDC revolvers were traded in without markings. After this issue I contacted the Armory Sergeant at CHCF. He told me that none of the revolvers purchased for CHCF were marked CDC. Being that I knew him and his wife for years (she was the UOF coordinator) I tend to believe him. I will say that I never saw another institution without markings on their revolvers. I worked at 6 different ones.

I will say the grip on his revolver is not what mine came with.

Hello,

So the reporting department will be updating the system and showing that they had the wrong number. Your weapon should be released soon.

Please let me know if you need anything further.

Hello,

We are still looking into it. It maybe that the reporting department had the wrong serial number. Majority of the revolvers are not engraved, only a few hundred were. The revolver that is being questioned came from California Health Care Facility in Stockton.

When I hear something new, I will let you know.

Have a good day,

I'm checking in to see if you might have any info on this.

also, I'm interested if you can tell me what department turn in this revolver? It is not marked with the CDC info nor does it have the scribed inventory number on the butt like the others do.
