Anyone know where in N. San Diego or Orange County you can buy the Pick n Pluck foam for Pelican cases?

You must use a different wire cutter than I'm imagining. Aren't wire cutters like a small pair of pliers?

I did the whole foam cutting thing on my 1750, was really nice, all organized, clean, neat, everything had it's place, was borderline gay, definitely metro-sexual... However I have since discovered I'm way too lazy to do it again for my 1720. Plus it's not like I'm trying to impress my ammo with a perfectly cut out foam interior in hopes it'll let me shoot it. It's my ammo, I'll shoot it whether it likes it or not.

Hard case for transporting in trunks, planes, truck beds and other abusive places. Soft case/drag bag to transport my rifle and such to the final shooting location (by handle or using stowed shoulder straps for backpack style carry). Soft case/drag bag then folds out into a shooting mat so I can shoot prone in comfort without getting dirty.

Not really a need for a layout so things are just tossed in. I just make sure the soft case/drag bag's handle is by the hard case's handle since the scope is right under it. Don't want to go dropping my case by the handle and having the weight of my rifle supported by the scope...

i used a "hot wire cutter". just wire that get real hot and cuts the foam. dont think that wire cutters (dykes) would do a very good job.

Thanks guys. After looking at that pic I did a little tidying up. Sling, muzzle protector (part of the scope cover) and extra mag are now inside the soft case, Otis and BAD tool kits are attached to the case via the MOLLE and the mag pouches and desiccant are stuffed in at the top. I'll probably pick up some removable double sided tape and affix the desiccant to the inside of the lid in a corner. Then just remove the tape, throw the desiccant in the oven and re-affix it in the case when it's dry.

Could you guys possibly provide a link to the cutters you are using? I used a razor blade and it came out REALLY rough.

A friend has this one, I used it on one of my first foam set. Very nice but you need a good template or else you can make some ugly mistakes.

http://www.amazon.com/Proxxon-37080-.../dp/B0017NS8H6

I have also had good luck using a snap blade knife. Extend the blade all the way out, pierce through the sheet of foam and slowly follow the lines. Get a pack of blades so if it feels like it's dragging too much you can change the blade. I think the cutter and blades are less than $20 together.

This used to be mine, but i sold it, I decided for my gear Pelican cases are just overkill. I now use a 36" Condor Double rifle case for my ARs with ACOGs. If i had a long range gun, it'd be another story.

I think the hot wire will give you a cleaner cut.

I did a case for my father-in-law and after that decided to never do one again. I just didn't have the patience and the hot wire cutter kept shorting out. The case looks good enough, but I'm sticking to soft cases tossed into a hard from now on.

Everyone with patience, they look good.

I bought some of the 1.1 and 1.6 lb density. Happier with the 1.6 lb. Closer to the original Pelican Foam.

They've got pick and pluck too.
