SSE handgun on CCW in Orange County?
I've been issued my ccw in Orange County. At the time, I was never worried about adding handguns that I had purchased by SSE on my license. I have recently been told by a local AmmoBros that having a handgun purchased through SSE on a license is a big NO NO and if I ever did have to use it, I would get slammed once they found that I went through a process to get a handgun that was never on the CA Roster.
What if I just purchased the same handgun private party and added it to my license? Would that be a different situation since I wasn't the one that did the SSE? Or is all this just the same thing and I'm fine? Obviously..... I'm confused on the whole thing and now that thought is in the back of my head of just picking up some CA roster stuff. Anyone have any insight on this? |

Just ppt it to a buddy, or your wife, and then ppt it back to yourself in a few weeks. I've heard of this situation before but I cannot say whether or not sse guns aren't allowed on ccw's. I've heard that you are not supposed to because after you converted the gun back to its factory configuration, you are technically modifying it from the configuration you bought it in, and mods aren't allowed on ccw guns. If it's the gun you are trained on though, I would just try to get it on your ccw anyhow. If you use your gun in a legitimate defense situation, most cops won't care. Besides it is better to be tried by twelve than carried by six. Just worry about your safety and peace of mind and forget about the bs laws that infringe on your rights.

If it's already on your permit then there are zero issues with it.
The IA requires the gun description match what is in CLETS. Yours apparently does or it would not be on your permit. As far as liability issues, that is complete BS. If you have to use it, the last of your problems is going to be whether or not it was SSE, or whether you have had modifications done. Off-roster handguns are not banned and not illegal to own. There is no difference between one that you bought PPT from someone else and one you got through SSE. Sounds like maybe AmmoBros has a new employee who has been spreading this BS thick this week... this is the 2nd thread on this topic in the last 48 hours.

There is no law that states this.
Beyond that, it depends on your IA. My county encourages the addition of night sights, and reliability enhancements such as spring kits, service-level trigger jobs, grips, etc... anything that makes you a better shooter is good. Several guns in my class had been modified and the instructor was cool with them. He just asked that we not disable any safeties.
