Great deal (and free shipping)

For those on the fence, the 9mm version falls off the list on 7/2

The CA "approved" 9mm version. AFAIK, the standard version is only available
to LEO's or via SSE/transfer.

But the CA version is still staying on correct? IIRC the standards been SSE only. I'm only asking because I'm planning on getting one in December and want to know if I have to rush to get the CA one now to avoid SSE for that one too.

Did S&W say they would let the Shield drop off the roster as well?

I believe I read the CA Shields and SVDEs were one of the few S&W semi-autos that they were going to "freeze" and make no changes to and keep renewing.

$407 OTD through Sean at Redfield, that is a smoking deal for sure. I picked up one of the 40 cal shields from them at $360.00+DROS and felt that was a good deal.

That was my understanding, as well. I was really surprised, when I saw
that the drop date was in July. I had expected it to be at least until the
end of the year. I have not seen it documented anywhere, but something
must have changed in S&W's plan. I think a lot of people are unaware that
the drop date is in a couple weeks. As islabaseball pointed out, many of
S&W's semi-auto offerings will be off list by the Oct timeframe. The 40cal
Shield drops in early Sept. Anyone in the market for a semi-auto should
familiarize themselves with the DOJ roster, and keep an eye on the drop
dates. By 1/1/15, the offerings will be FAR fewer than they are today.

True, but all S&W has to do is pay the renewal fee. Given that they only had about a year to sell the Shields, I'm betting they will be renewing so they can recoup their investment.

That's what I thought I heard too. Got an authoritative source link?

BTW Kentucky says they are last shipping these Monday to California due to Roster issues.

Don't panic - use your last 5 months to get 5 more SSE semiautos while you can.

Don't go by S&W word they are a business they say whatever they want but when it comes down to it it's whatever CA has on paper! Plan for the worst hope for the best!

$45 for transfer +SSE is way CHEAP. Unless, it's just the transfer fee (no SSE).

With gas at $4.60/gal and a car that gets 15mpg it costs too much to drive out for somewhere cheaper

I emailed S&W to ask them about the Shield falling off the roster, and this was their response:

"Dear Customer,

S&W will not renew any Semi-Automatic Firearms that expire from the list. Most manufacturers are taking the same stance.

If further assistance is required please reply accordingly.

Sincerely,"

That's a bummer. I was thinking I might get one of these for CCW down the road, but I'm in 30-day jail until mid july. I guess it's time to watch PPT prices go up again.

Did you happen to mention that in January they said the Shield would be kept in the roster? Just wondering...

No, I just sent a one liner saying "the shield is set to expire 7/2, will you renew it".

It's possible that someone at S&W is misinformed. I hope so. Seems a shame to let it expire. But at the same time I understand, eventually they have to take a stand against CA's ridiculous laws.

RMB, Digital Instincts and San Jose gun trader are all $65 total including DROS. All of them are in the south bay though. Ask they for a quote for out the door for tax.

Here is the link to where S&W said in January that the Shield will stay on the roster as long as no changes are made and that they are no planning any changes:

As many have pointed out, who the hell knows what will happen. Carpe Diem
