Default CGSSA On Target Shoot 6/13/14

Update: We will have some samples of Guerilla Grips on hand for people to try out and possibly win. Check out their thread here for more info.

With my return this month we will resume our rifle and pistol contests with NEW PRIZES! Targets are $1.00 and all proceeds go to Calguns.

ALSO: I am pleased to announce that yours truly and Alex (engi) have completed our training with the NRA to become NRA Certified Pistol Instructors. So..... We will be pleased to offer "certified" new shooter pistol training - so please feel free to bring new shooters as guests. - ALSO, we may begin helping our members shoot to attain NRA recognized shooting ranks. Please post, PM or see me for details.

RIFLE CARDS - I know a lot of you are looking to obtain or renew your Rifle Cards with On Target. I will beseech Charlie to hold a class this month if possible. Please post or PM me so I can gauge the interest levels.

(now the details)
Please review the following details pertaining to the meet:
Date: 6/13/14
Time: 6:30 to 8:30

Pistols - no double taps, no drawing from holster (standard indoor range safety precautions)
Rifles - rifle permit REQUIRED (pistol calibers are exempt), can be had by attending a rifle permit class on Sunday mornings @ 10AM, anything less than 338 Lapua is good to go. . . and yes, ARs/AKs are welcome!
Shotguns (NEW POLICY IN PLACE!) - minimum distance is 7-yard line, and ONLY slugshot sold at the range will be allowed for use.
Brass Recovery (since there seems to be confusion) - Let the staff know you are recovering your own brass, and clean up your area before you start so you do not mistakenly pick up other people's brass.
Cost - $5, stay and shoot as long as you want!

REMINDER: - Please police after yourselves at the range. On Target has been gracious enough to grant several concessions to make this event a success month after month. We should return the courtesy when utilizing their facilities, and take responsibility for our actions. . . after all, we do want to portray Calgunners as responsible gun owners, right? If we find that you hit a hanger, we will make sure the staff is aware. . . NO EXCEPTIONS!

I want feedback from the attendees. . . do y'all want All you can eat Korean BBQ, Sushi, or hotpot? Sound off and let your opinion be heard!

If you are planning on attending, please vote and/or respond to the thread so we have a good headcount.

NOTE: A rifle card is REQUIRED to shoot AR/AK pistols.

I'm in plus one guest please. I would be interested in a rifle card and I am sure my guest would be as well. I'm up for either sushi or Korean BBQ. Thanks!

In! And my rifle card's set to expire this month, so I'll need a re-up.

And I'm in for sushi.

Yes, for the new folks we usually split into two different camps after the shoot. There is a group of us who has to had north (tustin, irvine) to get home so KBBQ in Irvine makes sense. For others who live in the MV/LN/AV/LH area sushi makes more logistical sense.

I couldn't attend the Korean BBQ last month after the shoot but my guest and I vote for the same place again. That place off 99 Market is great.

I'm J and I'll be rocking my LTR. It feels wrong to be shooting a rifle when not laying in the dirt though.

You are welcome to shoot prone at ON Target - they have a special drop target hanger for that. But, better bring your own mat.

Add me to the wait list and three guests. I will be bringing out my Mom who has never shot before. She is getting her CCW and wants to learn to shoot before taking the course.

Been considering getting a membership for a while now, I think that cinches it. Is shooting prone a calguns event perk or that a regular thing?

On Target allows it if they are comfortable with you but does not advertise it. When I sign up in the front (alone or with Calguns), I tell them in the beginning I would like to shoot prone and have done so with them in the past. If available request to get one of the edge lanes so people won't be tripping on you as most shooters don't expect someone on the ground.
Do bring a mat. Lots of lead dust on the ground especially as Calguns shoots at night. It's a tight spot on that rectangle in your lane, slinging up without pointing the muzzle up is challenging and Cal Bar might even give you a friendly reminder.
And you don't need to be prone to practice Rifleman skills. Kneeling would be close to impossible due to table height but certainly everyone needs practice on correct steady hold factors and going down the numbers standing up.
