I had my interview this past Saturday. You wait downstairs till all the interviewees for your time block have arrived. They ask you to start filling out section 7 of the document, so I guess you can probably do that at home.
Once most people have filled out section 7, you are escorted upstairs in a elevator to a reception area where all your paperwork is submitted and arranged in files by the receptionists. You have your photo taken, thumbprint taken, and signature capture. Wait in the reception area until one of the deputy/investigators come out and call you in. The investigator takes you to his desk in a room with about 4-5 other investigators right next to him interviewing the other people in your group. I think there are a couple offices as well with investigators doing interviews. He reviewed my paperwork, went through how the whole process goes and how long it will take. About 3 weeks for my preliminary approval then I will be contacted to go get my livescan done. Then it goes to the lieutenant for approval and he said after your initial approval there is a 99% chance it will be approved. I think a couple weeks later you'll get your license. This is all from what I recall so it could be a little off. You are asked pretty much all the same questions on the applications. The investigator dosn't really ask you any personal questions. He will check to ensure all of your pistols you are applying with are on the DOJ database, one of mine had issues but I went back to my FFL and got my dros paperwork which I e-mailed to the investigator and I think its all taken care of. The whole interview process only took about 15-20 min, we talked about just random stuff as well. Guns, watches, etc... Very painless process and was out total in about 45 min all together. They got their act together and are speeding through the backlog I think. The investigator escorts you downstairs, he explained to me that they had a huge influx of applicants. The cheif or something thought it was ridiculous 2-3 year wait, looked extremely bad and they knew that. They hired much more staff, and tasked a lieutenant to get things rolling faster. I gotta sign up for a CCW class now, gotta get on that. Let me know if you have any questions, will answer best I can. |

How did you get yours so quickly? Your first contact with OCSD was April of this year. I sent mine in in March and I was contacted last week to move it up to May of 2015 only. Did you call them to get it moved or do something we didn't?
...... 3:30 pm today. Got another email moving mine up to September 5th of this year and the email says be prepared to move it up even further. Last edited by Calirvine; 05-22-2014 at 2:33 PM.. |

They called and left a message yesterday that said that they wanted an email address to notify me of changes to the schedule.
Maybe I got lucky and was placed in a cancelation appt? |

I'm sure some have gone in looking worse and they don't decide off of your choice of apparel so I'm inclined to say that it would be okay. However, would it hurt to put on a button down before you walked in? Maybe shoes instead of sandals? You don't have to do much to improve your look. You might want to think about how you want to be perceived.

I sent another email the next day(tuesday) and no response, I left messages on both numbers today. She had responded within 24 hours through last week saying she wouldn't schedule me until I had certificate in hand.
EDIT; She just emailed me as I was typing this up. I'm scheduled for next Monday. Last edited by autoduel; 06-12-2014 at 11:58 AM.. |

My pack is on the Lt desk pending is what Melisa told me earlier this week. I'm waiting for approval to get my live scan. My training is already done. It's just dragging out my Interview was April 29 moved from April 14, 2915. Just a waiting game now i guess.

My guess is that "sitting on the LT's desk" could mean a few thing. When I was in Yolanda's office there was a two foot stack of files waiting to go to the LT's office; that probably qualifies as on his desk (she likely would not say your file is sitting on a chair in my office waiting for someone to take it to the LT.) It could be sitting on his desk waiting for him to review it; I'm told he's pretty meticulous. It could also mean he's reviewed it and it will get back to Yolanda or Melissa with the rest of the stack when he's done with them. Either way there's light at the end of the tunnel! Then I called and was surprised she was still there! She has been there since 5 am! Pickup 6-19 btw she was extremely friendly, helpful, and funny, even after being there 16 hours. It took roughly 60 days start to finish, so be patient (it's hard I know). The process isn't perfect, but at least we have one. Just ask the people in Riverside County

It means those people have submitted apps and are somewhere in the process, anywhere from waiting for their initial interview to picking up their permit. .
