I got an email today, offering May or June 2014 instead of May 2015.

There is a lot of information about the process in the following two OC specific threads:

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=912905
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=896454

Basically, from what I can gather, the process goes something like this. A plain clothed deputy parks somewhere other than in front of your residence and walks to your house and knocks to see if you are home. If you are home, the residency check is done. If no one is home, they move on to your neighbors and show a photo of you and ask "Is this Mr/Mrs So and So that lives next door at 1234 Main Street? " If they answer yes, the residency check is done.

It appears there are a few reports of deputies checking with multiple neighbors. Again, we are not 100% certain of the exact process. My guess would be they'd prefer to have two 2 points of contact to make sure.

Someone did report in another thread that the investigator did advise the neighbors that the person was applying for a CCW, if that's a concern of anybody (it's not of mine.)

When I had my interview my guy told me their are only two people who do res checks…I have to imagine they're going to change that.

Are you new? Apparently you haven't seen that people are getting moved up in earnest. You're not going to have to wait until 2017. Get your paperwork in order, or you'll be caught with your pants down like others were that had an appointment scheuled further out.

Yerp i heard of that.. I do have the paper work downloaded, filled out, left some blanks cuz of the date issues... I'm worried they might change the paperwork format by 2017, and all the writings would be a waste... so i'll worry about it when they actually give me an earlier date... but so far,nothing..

It takes all of ten minutes to fill out the paperwork.

Good luck.

I was Dec, 2014... moved to april 26th. Now I am fumbling to make sure I have all my correct paper work.

Also I have read in other threads. They are separating applications based on cause in case the 9th circuit reverses the ruling. Still putting self defense, but know that if reversed we are back to the dark ages.

^^ I'm wondering (doubting) that if you get approved prior to reversal there would be a retraction of permits.

It clearly states on the website and application that they have the right to revoke at any time.

^ as a CYA I'm sure; to leave the door open for additional 'good cause' than SD. Revoking is a pretty big deal and not for her or any sheriff to take lightly; especially considering how politically driven that position in and in what county it resides. She pretty much had to revoke the permits issued by her predecessor for the obvious reasons. I feel fairly confident that there will be a 'window' of issuance and if law is appealed that the new applicants will need to show additional GC but a retraction would not happen.

She (the sheriff) revoked permits before because she didn't like the given Good Cause; she could do it again.

With that said, this thing (the permit process) has snowballed and I can't see here revoking 3000+ permits.

Initial appointment was January of 2015. Just got a call moving me up to June of 2014.

Seems there has been a lot of cancellations.

5 Weeks ago - Called and left a message that I would like to schedule interview
3 Weeks ago - Got a call back and scheduled interview for July 2017

I have a friend that has already made it through the interview. He scheduled almost as soon as they announced they would follow Puerta ruling. He also said that tons of people with felonies are applying. There is no way they will ever be approved but they are all granted an interview. Kinda slowing the entire process down.

Oh and they quadrupled the staff. That's why everyone is able to move up.

It wouldn't surprise me if some of those were double bookings; people requesting an appointment online and on the phone. Canceling the double bookings is probably freeing up a lot of dates.

Also, some of those cancellations could be prohibited persons who figured it wasn't worth the effort to go through the process just to get denied. They also could be worried they'd be arrested at their interview if they had outstanding warrants!

Missed a call from this number while I was driving. Called it back and it won't connect. 99% sure I missed the call to move up my appointment :/
(714) 835-7840
Santa Ana, CA

My original appointment is scheduled for April 7th 2016.

My Log:

March 5th: filled out the website form requesting a CCW App.

March 13th: Received an appointment for April 7th 2016

April 29th: Missed a call to reschedule.

May 5th: Received a call and rescheduled for June 16th 2014

June 16th: Interview went well. took 43 minutes from parking to driving out. He said it would take about 3 weeks for the initial approval and then another 3 weeks or so from then for the live scan approval. He also said they have had around 5000 applications so far and he expects more like 100,000 people who will apply once word gets around. Waiting on the residency check and initial approval.

June 29th: Residency check performed.

July 12 and 13th: Completed training at FTA. Qualified with three guns. To qualify your secondary guns you have to shoot 75 rounds each with no more than three misses, and no more than three malfunctions per firearm. 25 rounds at 3 yards, 25 rounds at 5 yards, 10 rounds at 7 yards, 10 rounds at 10 yards, and 5 rounds at 15 yards.

July 28th: Received initial approval from Melissa, and emailed her a copy of my training certificate.

July 29th: Completed livescan finger printing with Rob Ryan in HB on Beach Blvd. Took 5 minutes and was $109.

August 28th: Received DOJ clearance and final approval.

September 15th is my scheduled pickup time for my permit. Was told to bring my original training certificate and a check for $102.22

My original appointment is scheduled for April 6th 2016.
I really hope they aren't going through the list on an "as answered the phone but we won't leave a message to call us back" basis. I had the same missed call on Monday.

I emailed to them last Wednesday 4/30/14. I just got the emailed from Halie Simmons at hsimmons@ocsd.org for the appt. for 11/28/17. That's more than 3 years from now. Do you think calling in and leaving a message may have a better chance to get a sooner appt.?

If it was me, I'd wait at least a few days since you just got that email. Then I'd call and ask if they had anything sooner or if they have a cancelation list that you could be put on.

There are a lot of double bookings , people change their mind, can't afford it, figure they won't qualify and a dozen other reason for openings to occur. You'll get bumped up. Just make sure you answer your phone. Calls come from the 714 AC and most have had a 835 prefix.

My interview is this Friday and I'm currently gathering my documentation. Other than a utility bill, what other documentation would be sufficient to prove full-time residency?

There's a list on the Sheriff's website. You can also find the info in a few different threads here.

I had a few speeding tickets from prior years and it never came up in my interview.

I brought one application with and one without Section 7 filled out. They took my completely filled in Section 7 with no problem. I got my approval letter just this week and scheduled my training now for August.

I brought one application with and one without Section 7 filled out. They took my completely filled in Section 7 with no problem. I got my approval letter just this week and scheduled my training now for August.
Robert101 when was the date of your interview/application submit??? I'm curious to see how much of a wait before letter of approval after interview. Also when did you live-scan after approval?
Thank you

Default Orange County CCW Applicants - Please Provide a Log

I originally had a May 2015 date. I received an email to pick between May and June 2014, and took a June date. Unfortunately, I needed to reschedule and asked for a date toward the end of the year, so now I'm going in on December.

A question: I vaguely remember a requirement to get three letters of GMC. However, looking at the app and the checklist on the site today, I don't see it anywhere. Was I dreaming it or is it still a requirement?
