Davis Law Firm Letter: Patriot Mag Release Legal in CA
The Bullet Button 'Patriot Mag Release' is fully legal in CA as installed and complies with SB 880. Ensure that your rifles are in compliance.
Davis Law Firm letter: https://www.facebook.com/calgunlawye...02816253069145 Thanks. - Team BB

This one sucks. The AR Maglock is a little better, but the FC Hook offers the easiest conversion and does not require any semi-permanent modification the way the patriot mag release does. If you like being able to jump back and forth between a normal mag release and a "compliant device", the FC hook is where its at.

I saw a prototype of the the FC Hook at SHOT 2017. Looks pretty cool and I need to get a hold of one to try it out.

Interesting title for the thread, (Davis Law Firm Letter: Patriot Mag Release Legal in CA) as the Davis Law Firm letter is generic as to the statute and doesn't state the Patriot Mag release device to be in compliance. In fact, the Davis letter doesn't mention any of the devices being produced. Perhaps this post is a declaration of guaranteed compliance by the manufacturer and a de facto indemnification of all future users? Perhaps it also means that the manufacturer will defend any user against criminal prosecution? Really curious post. |

The OP assumes that you can do the mental math and figure out that his device meets the requirements when installed properly. Understanding legal opinions require some sort of IQ. Absent that, you are on your own. . . . .

Looks like a legal opinion on the statues as passed but it is not a legal opinion on the product offered. Product offered is still at risk to the 50+ odd DA's in the PRK.
Doubt any firm will issue a Legal Opinion on a particular product and DOJ sure as hell won't. So until a DOJ Employee on the witness stand says it is, it depends what is is. I would hope that the cap installed correctly, requiring destruction of the device to remove it, would pass the statues. It is no different than with the original BB.

That seems to put an enormous liability on Prince50 to defend against all customers against prosecution. Failure to defend may open up a class action due to manufacturer liability. IANAL, but I've archived the OP information just in case I buy one of these and later run into trouble. |

Nope - doesn't require destruction. I have had to remove one from a customer's firearm due to the magazine not releasing. It was repaired and reinstalled.

Prince50 is one of the vendors I'd trust to have all the I's dotted and T's crossed.
One should especially notice the bottom paragraph/section in Jason Davis' letter as well: if you can remove the compliance device from the gun without action dissassembly (even if the complaince device blocks mag removal unless action diassembly) you'll have "issues". Per this last paragraph, various other devices may suffer these ills.

One thing to keep in mind when installing some of the new mag releases. Make sure they do not operate normally with a variety of mags. I’ve seen them operate with action closed when a norrower usgi mag was installed instead of a magpul for instance. Adjust to your easist to eject mag.
